Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a stern warning to California the same day he announced a lawsuit filed by the Justice Department over the state's immigration policies.
I understand that we have a wide variety of political opinions out there on immigration. But the law is in the books and its purposes are clear and just, Sessions said during a speech to the California Peace Officers Association in Sacramento on Wednesday.
There is no nullification. There is no secession. Federal law is the supreme law of the land. I would invite any doubters to go to Gettysburg, to the tombstones of John C. Calhoun and Abraham Lincoln. This matter has been settled, he continued.
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit against California on Wednesday that aims to block three so-called sanctuary laws California's legislature passed last year. The laws dictate how local jurisdictions should interact with federal immigration authorities. Californias laws, Sessions argued, are harmful to the states residents, and prevent law enforcement officers from doing their jobs.
He singled out Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, who last month warned residents of an impending Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raid. Schaaf defended her decision even after ICE said it was unable to locate more than 800 people as part of its sweep of the city.
"Heres my message to Mayor Schaaf: How dare you," Sessions said Wednesday. "How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of our law enforcement officers to promote a radical open borders agenda."
He said the Justice Department isnt asking the state to enforce federal immigration law, but rather is asking California and local jurisdictions to stop actively obstructing federal law enforcement.
California is using every power it has, and some it doesnt, to frustrate federal law enforcement, Sessions said. So you can be sure...

I thought the whole point of our Constitution is that it limit the power of the central government to impose its will by the power of the sword.
But here is Sessions pointing to the battle field where more US citizens died in a battle in defense of the rights of men to choose their own government than any other battle fought by AmerIcans.
Could be that Sessions has found at least one of his nuts.
It will be interesting to see if kalifornica understands the message and responds appropriately.
Arkansas could not defy federal law in 1957. I hope this impasse does not need to come to this. For those who don’t recall this chapter of US History or were not alive to remember the event here is an outline of it:

Sessions is still the AG? I never hear of him doing anything as AG.
I’ve seen this movie before, only in previous versions Darrell Issa, Trey Goudy and other Congressional investigators played the lead role in, “Thump the Table - Do Nothing”.
Useless without teeth.

LOL. Kalifornia could care less. They will ignore this legal gambit, but they can’t ignore funding blockages. Money is the only thing that will get the state’s attention and compliance.
His focus is ass backwards. He recused himself with the matters that truly matter.
“How dare you?” That’s the best Sessions can do in regards to that “mayor” in Oakland?
How ‘bout “You’re under arrest, you Marxist b*tch!”
If CA morons continue to push this, they will wake up to a little “Gettysburg” moment.
Jeff Sessions has been AG for 1 year, 26 days.
**************
Not really. Rod Rosenstein has been the de facto AG for the entire time.
I didn’t see it, but reading it here and the “how dare you?” to the mayor sounds pretty weak. He should be prosecuting her, not admonishing her in a speech.
How dare you????
Lock her up.
Sounds like BOOM number 2...Q drop
In leaving out Article VI, Clause 2 of the Constitution, Sessions, misstates the Supreme Law of the Land, even though in this rare case, the feds are actually within their constitutional authority in dealing with immigration, and the state, California, in the wrong where it usually is.
Regardless, Sessions and the whole D.C. establishment - Dems AND GOP - are part of the problem. They gotta go.
Jail the Beyotch!
I don’t doubt that at all.
Excellent speech, but it has to be followed IMMEDIATELY by action.
This is not good enough. Acting like a spurned girlfriend doesn't threaten anyone. Arrest the woman! She violated the law!
Heres my message to Mayor Schaaf: How dare you,” Sessions said Wednesday.”
Wow that should scare her away. I take it Sessions will back this with prosecution? I didn’t think so.
