Climate change could ravage waterfront by 2100, so Portland plans to fight back
The Press-Herald ^ | March 4, 2018 | BY KELLEY BOUCHARD

Posted on 03/04/2018 7:21:20 AM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

In less than 100 years, strolling from shop to shop along Commercial Street in Portland or running with your dog on Willard Beach in South Portland could become something folks did in the old days.

Based on the latest tidal trends, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts that by the year 2100, those areas will be under at least a foot of seawater at high tide on a calm day.

Under this grim scenario, Willard Beach would disappear, showing up once in a while as a narrow strip of sand at extreme low tides. The indomitable brick buildings on Commercial Street, which harken to Portland’s shipping heyday and draw tourists to the Old Port, would be gone.

Preparing for sea level rise is just one aspect of a proposed joint venture by the neighboring cities to develop climate action and adaptation plans that would be designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050.

In broad terms, the plans would aim to reduce waste in all aspects of everyday life; increase energy efficiency at home, in government buildings and in the workplace; promote sustainable transportation options throughout the region; and prepare for the various impacts of climate change.

Julie Rosenbach, South Portland’s sustainability director, acknowledged the challenge of building community-wide support for and engagement in the new plans.

“We’re going big,” Rosenbach admitted. But rather than focus on the doom and gloom of climate change, she said, “we’re going to address people’s daily needs and concerns.”

“We’ve already locked ourselves into what’s going to happen,” she said. “With just a foot of sea level rise, we’re going to see 100 high tides of 12 feet or more each year.”

“Resiliency doesn’t have to be competing with development,” Rosenbach said. “It can be working with development.”

If you can’t withstand a one foot increase in sea level then you built in the wrong place and you chose POORLY. History teaches us that sea levels rise and fall over time.

There’s that word “could” again in a global warming story. They are also getting better at stating unverifiable dates. They must have learned from the IPCC fiasco of the 50 million climate refugees due to rising sea levels in 2005, 2010 and 2015 never happening.

ZERO TRAVEL APPROVALS FOR GLOBAL CLIMATE CON-MEN.

Require that they all tele-commute from home.

No ritzy hotels, no dinners out, no conferences in exotic locals.

I like how they can’t accurately predict out one to five days yet we are supposed to believe they can accurately assess ten twenty or one hundred years..

Push the prophecies beyond their lifetimes and there is no accountability for their fraud and swindle of trillions of dollars public and private.

Dynasties and wealth are being created from deceit and hysteria.

They could do what the penguins did, MOVE.

Such a persistence in “keeping things as they are” despite nature and trends.

Bernie Sanders: Climate Change is Directly Related To Terrorism

by Michelle Fields
Nov 14, 2015

“In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism,” said Sanders.

“And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say, you’re going to see counties all over the world...they’re going to be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops, and you’re going to see all kinds of international conflict.”

Sanders said at the second Democratic debate in Iowa that climate change poses the biggest threat to America’s national security and to security of the world. ...”

Scare the people enough so you can create thousands and thousands more “necessary” government jobs, “grants”, subsidies, regulations, mandates, ect., ect.

When, even if you must “do something” the tons of “sustainability” and “green” projects are a multi-billion dollar waste compared to the already proven means others (like the Dutch) have been doing for centuries - dikes.

> Climate change could ravage waterfront by 2100 <

Does the headline include a scary prediction? Check.
Does it include a word a like “could” or “might”? Check.
Does it include a long time frame? Check.

Does it include a victim group, like “the children”, who will be especially harmed? No.

Sorry Press-Herald, close but no cigar. Try harder next time.

“Julie Rosenbach, South Portland’s sustainability director”

Only an idiot farm like Portland would have a sustainability director.

All of these articles have the same formula. State in the first two sentences that something “may” or “could” or “might” happen. Then state everything in the result as a fact. By then of the article, the facts remain in the mind of the reader, not the hypothetical “maybe”.

Excerpts from article:

They hope to split the $220,000 cost of a consultant and technical work, which means each city council must approve a $110,000 budget item this spring for the collaboration to go forward.

Under the solar farm contracts, each city will purchase the electricity from ReVision at rates higher than market prices for the first six years, before being able to buy the solar equipment outright for nearly $1.6 million.

This carpet muncher and her cohort are great scammers.

Has there ever been a war between South Portland and North Portland? They had to divide up the territories?
