President Donald Trump pledged Monday that he will work to ensure that bump stocks become illegal, declaring that he’ll ban them himself if necessary.
Addressing a meeting of state governors, Trump delivered remarks about guns in the wake of the Florida school shooting earlier this month, which claimed the lives of 17 people.
“We have to have action. We don’t have any action,” Trump said, explaining that after mass shootings take place, people talk about how to prevent such tragedies, but meaningful reforms are rarely implemented.
“It happens, a week goes by, ‘let’s keep talking,’ another week goes by, ‘let’s keep talking.’ Two months go by, all of a sudden everybody’s off to the next subject,” the president stated. “Then when it happens again, everybody’s angry, and ‘let’s start talking again.'”
This cycle of inaction followed by more tragedy has got to stop, Trump said, before proclaiming that bump stocks have to go.

I heard that and didn’t like it. Reminded me a LOT of:
“We’re not just going to be waiting for legislation,” Obama announced. “I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone...and I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions and administrative actions.”
I don’t see how he has the authority.
This won”t save a single life, but Jeb wants it anyway.
That is easily the stupidest thing ever said by any politician ... and 'way too many politicians say it.

Obama opened the door with his “If Congress doesn’t act, I will” BS and now Trump is continuing the legacy. Yet another bipartisan step down the trail toward becoming a banana republic.

He doesn't. The National Firearms Act doesn't allow it, otherwise BATF would already have listed them as Class III firearms.
If he just seizes power and "bans" them by executive order, he's no different from 0bama.
Actually I think it is sensible.
What is the purpose of an executive order some may ask. It is a Presidential directive detailing how the executive branch will execute a duty or a law — it lays out the detail.
We have a law severely limiting the sale of “automatic fire arms”. When it was written, there were no “bump stocks” in ready retail. Now their are and they obviously change the nature of a semi-automatic weapon. I see nothing wrong in issuing an executive order until such time as congressional legislation is passed clearing up the distinction. If limitation of the sale of automatic weapons is constitutional, this is as well.
1. No one is claiming to be a contributing factor in the school shooting (yes, Las Vegas).
2. The NRA is willing to wait and see the actual words regarding a ban before making a position.
3. Most folks do not have a serious issue with the ban "except" for the slippery slope argument.
In any case, the play here shows "something is being done" which takes the initiative away from the anti-constitutionalist and communist
I not one to defend bump stocks as I think they are pretty stupid, but do agree with you about Ivanka. Too bad she didn’t miss her flight home from Korea. Maybe once Jared gets kicked out of the White House, they will both go home to New York or somewhere. I suspect they are the reason for some or most of the wobbly comments we hear from Trump.

Not happy with Trump today. His jumping on the bash-the-NRA bandwagon is a disgrace.
All he has to do is say that it turns a semi-automatic into an automatic and treat it like a machine gun.
You know, I still am not sure if he actually wanted to do the military parade thing but if true, he could at least emulate Pinochet and rid us of these Goddamned communists already.

By doing this, Trump is conceding to the gun grabbers that guns are the problem.

i dont see how he has any authority to just ban a legal commodity at his whim
if a president has such authority, it needs to be revoked immediately. no one man should have the authority to put legitimate manufacturers and retail stores out of business
