Broward County Sheriff: I’ve Given ‘Amazing Leadership’ to Department
Free Beacon ^ | February 25, 2018 | David Rutz

Embattled Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said he had provided "amazing leadership" to his department on Sunday, drawing disbelief from CNN host Jake Tapper.

Tapper pressed Israel during a nearly half-hour interview about the response of his department before and during the Stoneman Douglas high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead.

Israel announced Thursday that school resource officer Scot Peterson had been suspended and decided to retire rather than be terminated after learning Peterson failed to enter the school during the massacre and engage the shooter.

Israel also defended the conduct of his department in response to the 18 calls its deputies got about the killer, Nikolas Cruz, including fears he could be a "school shooter in the making." No report was initiated upon that tip.

Tapper asked Israel, who participated in CNN's town hall on guns on Wednesday and called for stronger gun control laws, if he could see how the public would be critical when it saw so many red flags go ignored by the department.

"How could there not even be a report on this one?" Tapper asked.

"If that's accurate, Jake, there needed to be a report and that's what we're looking in to, that a report needed to be completed, it needed to be forwarded to our homeland security or violent crimes unit and they would've followed up on it," Israel said.

Tapper noted Israel's conditional remarks, pointing out it was notes from Israel's own department. Israel responded the officer who handled that situation was on restrictive duty.

"I've exercised my due diligence, I've led this county proudly as I always have," he said. "We have restricted that deputy as we look in to it. You know, deputies make mistakes, police officers make mistakes, we all make mistakes, but it's not the responsibility of the general or the president, if you have a deserter. You look into this. We're looking into this aggressively, and we'll take care of it and justice will be served."

"Are you really not taking any responsibility for the multiple red flags that were brought to the attention of the Broward Sheriff's Office about this shooter before the incident?" Tapper asked.

"Jake, I can only take responsibility for what I knew about. I exercised my due diligence. I've given amazing leadership to this agency—" Israel started.

"Amazing leadership? Tapper asked incredulously.

"Yes, Jake. There's a lot of things we've done throughout this—this is—you don't measure a person's leadership by a deputy not going into these deputies received the training they needed—" Israel said.

"Maybe you measure somebody's leadership by whether or not they protect the community," Tapper said. "In this case, you've listed 23 incidents before the shooting involving the shooter and still nothing was done to keep guns out of his hands, to make sure that the school was protected, to make sure you were keeping an eye on him … I don't understand how you can sit there and claim amazing leadership."

Israel said on "16 of those cases," his deputies did everything right and in the five years he had been sheriff, he'd taken the department to a "new level."

"One person didn't do what he should have done," Israel said. "It's horrific. The victims here, the families, I pray for them every night. It makes me sick to my stomach that we had a deputy that didn't go in because I know if I was there, if I was on the wall, I would have been the first in along with so many other people.

In a related story just developing, the wife of Broward County Sheriff has explained that she “is a 10”.

No, CNN is getting blowback both from the Town Hall and for exploiting the kids. Also, the well-known truth is coming out about how Broward County engaged in fudging student crime numbers.

That's why Tapper went "hard."

“amazing leadership”.......

Can be defined in a positive or negative way. So far we are seeing the negative side.

Scratch that. Recent statements indicate that the Broward County Sheriff’s wife has revised her comments to reflect that she “is an amazing 10”, and not merely a 10.

The problem for the progs is that this incompetent shill for the left undermined their whole position. No one could have made a stronger case for why citizens need the right to protect themselves than this charade in responding to a tragedy.

What this whole episode indicates is that the left's dominant strategy, the one they have relied upon since Clinton and Podesta started running for the whathouse of controlling the narrative, is no working. CNN/MSNBC/COMPOST are incapable of seizing the intitiative anymore, however hard they try. It's a public relations nightmare for the left.

The autists on 8chan, etc. have been burrowing away into the background of everyone involved and two narratives emerge:

Nice to see public servants who start and end each day regardless of their situational awareness by admiring themselves and giving us their assurances of such.

So refreshing from our real world self analysis of "what could I have done better?"

In the Parkland case, their security system had a dismal record concerning student safety and security that should be brought to public discussion particularly beginning with this school having a so called “gun free zone”.

It did have an officer who may be armed assigned to patrol the multi acre site in a golf cart, but bans guns from the rest of its internal security

Criticism arose when the officer assigned to this duty who was nearing retirement He was reported to arrive late and after Cruz had entered the building but stationed himself outside the large structure and had called for support. Two BCSD officers responded Which and did the same seeming to refusing to enter the building while armed . He then left before Cruz did. Also responding was the Coral Shores PD who entered the building and cleared it. Cruz was captured while fleeing with other students by an alert CSPD officer on the 45 acre campus.

Those laissez faire attitudes strongly suggest examining records of reporting how the bureaucracy at this school handled student vs student, and student vs teacher (Cruz was accused of this) altercations, vandalism, thefts, and drug use. Which are bound to occur were being dealt with.To which a dramatic reduction in disciplinary incidents were reported after a visit by Obama occurred.

Because of these Ding Bat liberal policies it brings up another question. Just how safe and secure are those kids ? There’s a lot of krap that happens; Assaults, fights, thefts, books and items stolen, teachers accosted, kids intimidated....

Examine records reporting how student vs student, and student vs teacher altercations, vandalism, and thefts, which are bound to occur were being dealt with.

Because in an educational unit this size it’s pretty clear their security system failed . In a secure system Cruz would have never gotten inside.

Now that school board has decided to tear down the school which was probably raised by a funding referendums and the grounds house a memorial.

Well, in related recent facts Broward County Sheriff Israel has stated that he would be the first to respond to such problems if he had been the first to answer the phone, after he learned that Cruz was on many psychologists speed dialers for psycho's gone wrong.

"I do amazing phone response leadership to dangerous shooters in the making"

Amazing: adjective, causing great surprise or wonder; astonishing.

I am amazed, no absolutely astonished at how incompetent Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel was in his leadership.

The word is an adjective for both directions, both positive and negative. His leadership was amazingly incompetent!

Sheriff Israel will never be confused with a street smart cop. He is an enforcer of progressive orthodoxy. He is the manifestation of an armed commissar.

><

You nailed it! He’s very dangerous. The Gov. should get rid of him, which by FL law, he can do.
