A report released Friday claims four of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel’s deputies waited outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while the attack was occurring. On February 22 Breitbart News reported that one deputy resigned after it was learned that he was on scene but failed to control Nikolas Cruz. Sheriff Israel told ABC 13 that video shows the deputy, Scott Peterson, “arrive at the west side of Building 12” and “take a position” outside the school — but never go inside. The sheriff’s office moved to suspend Peterson, who resigned before the suspension could take place.
Now CNN reports that the Coral Springs police officers claim three other Broward County deputies were outside the school but failed to go inside as well. They quote “Coral Springs sources” who said the three “deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles” when Coral Springs officers arrived. They said “not one of [the deputies] had gone into the school.”

This seems to be the narrative for school shootings. They hurry to the school and wait for the gunfire to stop, then enter.

If I had kids in school, I’d feel much safer with armed parents and teachers, rather than cops, watching over them.

You got that right. Every cop car comes standard with a 12 gauge shotgun that holds 6-7 rounds of 00 buck. A shotgun in an enclosed space is lethal. With four deputies on scene, I fail to understand why the officers didn’t enter the school.
Is there a policy regarding possible multiple shooters, that prevents it?
Seems once you have two or more deputies, you make a move.
While this news seems alarming, it is nothing out of the ordinary. Matter of fact it is department policy.
SO... it’s a big distraction.
The answer to this mess is not in what the Deputies did or did not do. The answer is in what happened before the shooting began.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that there was a ACTIVE SCHOOL SHOOTER DRILL conducted just prior to the shooting. WHO conducted that exercise ?
Good point. All i heard was that students were confused and thought it was a drill since they just had a drill.
The first cop was waiting for backup. Cops 2, 3, and 4 were waiting for backup to their backup.
The Broward County sheriff has doesn’t want citizens to have weapons and his deputies cower from a gunfight. So I guess that leaves just the bad guys with weapons.
And Teachers I ions.
1. How did they know this wasn't part of the ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL that had been conducted earlier that day ?
2. The fire alarms go off and all the kids are coming out of the buildings.
3. There is gunfire. Again, is it real or part of the test ?
4. If there is real shooting, the regular patrolmen are to secure a position and wait for SWAT. This is true in most of the country.

May I offer this alternative?
Get rid of CORRUPT union officials and everything else will be much easier to deal with.

They were waiting for SWAT to arrive. Police have all of these fancy toys and vehicles to play woth these days. So they stand off until SWAT arrives on the scene to play army. To hell with public safety.
When the stuff hits the fan most people revert back to training & doctrine.
What needs to be brought forward is the training manual and the doctrines.
The Marines storm the objective and overcome. Police departments are not the Marines and I wouldn’t expect them to be.
As I have said and read in other posts along the same lines as this subject, the failure is systemic and it starts with making the target as hard as possible. That is where the failure occurred. The rest is just tragedy because the failure occurred Systemically.
