A troubled teen — dubbed “mentally disturbed” by President Trump — opened fire at a Florida school nearly one year after a law undid a regulation making it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.
Most Republicans — and the National Rifle Association — cheered the repeal of the Obama-era measure meant to prevent future massacres as experts question what can be done to prevent such tragedies.

This bill was signed into law on October 31, 1963, by President John F. Kennedy.
Peter King is a horse’s ass. We are told over and over to never make an important decision during periods of great emotional stress. King and his ilk know none of their uncontitutional laws can survive rational thought. But they are willing, like the bolsheviks, to let innocents be killed to push their anti-American agenda.
The cited law had nothing to do with the Florida shooting. It was abut SSDI and the kid was not collecting SSDI.
All points about gun control are moot when the FBI knew this kid was a time bomb, the local police knew Cruz was a time bomb, the FBI were tipped off weeks before, local police were on the scene and did nothing.
This has NOTHING to do with guns or gun control. This was preventable and the system didn’t work for crap.
It doesn’t matter how many laws were not enforced or if we make new laws that will not be enforced. If you won’t enforce the laws, and if criminals won’t volunteer to follow the laws, you can’t fix these problems.
It is NOT about guns.

I have a “religious fervor” for upholding the 2nd Amendment. I refuse to give up our RKBA. They are as fundamental to freedom as freedom of speech and the press and the right to worship God as I wish.
I refuse to surrender to demagogues and close-minded fanatics who are not interested in common-sense solutions but to take away our right to defend ourselves. That right is non-negotiable.
Our opponents may badger and scream us down all they want but we will not yield. We care far more about protecting human life than they do.
We stand ready to seek solutions that prevent a mass slaughter - but we will never agree to a situation of temporary safety in exchange for our freedom because a people that agrees to it deserve neither. That is our line in the sand.

and
issue or make sure all high school students have firearms and know how to use them (give them good safety and operating classes, with certified instructors) for defense and yes, for shooting sports and competitions... just like we used to have at so many schools
