A police officer who was on duty at a Florida high school and did nothing to stop gunman Nikolas Cruz when he started his massacre has been suspended.
Deputy Scot Peterson, who was armed with a handgun, did follow police procedure and immediately confront Cruz when he started his rampage killing 17 people with an AR-15 assault rifle, according to the Broward County Sheriff's department.
Instead he took cover at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for upwards of four minutes and 'never went in ', according to Sheriff Scott Israel who said Peterson's actions left him 'Sick to my stomach. There are no words.'

I truly hope that your statement is overflowing with sarcasm and you just didn’t acknowledge that.
As a member of law enforcement for over 15 years, I felt that it was my job to run to the sound of gunfire and help people, in times of crisis.
Not to do a forensic review of the crime scene after you’re dead. By your reasoning, there is no reason for any cops to have a gun, have emergency equipment on their vehicles, have handcuffs or any other non-lethal equipment on their belts. They are just supposed to show up, after the fact, and take some pictures.

the deputy is being villified, but he was too close to retirement to die a hero. i wonder how long he will be able to live as such.
i hope a long time... rethinking his decision.
