Ledyard police said a 17-year-old high school student has been arrested and charged with threatening and breach of peace.
According to a letter from the high school principal, that student made a comment stating I could buy an AR-15, the same gun used in the Florida shooting.
The principal said the student wasnt threatening to do harm, but rather was talking about buying guns. The principal said the student does not have access to guns at home.

I can buy an AR-15! There, I said it!
Now where’s the crime?????????
The offense is akin to joking about a bomb in the airport. One simply doesnt do it.What? I find this completely bogus.
Based on the comments from the school, it sounds like the police made a false arrest.
The kid’s parents ought to sue.
“I find this completely bogus.”
Hey! leave me outa this!
He is wrong, he cannot buy one.
The principal who determines there was no threat but kicked the decision to the police?
The police who appear to have used very poor judgment?
Maybe the parents who didn't think to keep all public school boys home for the rest of the month?
The reports of a number of potential copycats the past week is scary.
There have been numerous news reports of suspects being reported to police and follow-ups end up with arrests and significant caches of weapons/ammo.
“At the beginning of our first period class, a student stated, roughly, I could buy an AR-15......The student did not, in fact, specifically threaten to do harm but rather referenced the purchase of a weapon.”

If the kid were screaming it or speaking in the context of getting weapons such as were used in the FL shooting, I could see having the cops have a talk with him.
But, as it is, they trampled all over this kid’s rights for no valid reason. Goofy over-reaction.
What if he said, “I could buy an AR-15?”
A kid at the meeting with Trump said he just turned 18 and be could buy an AR 15. I didn’t see him being hauled off.
It’s still not a threat.
I hope that the arrested kid’s lawyer heard that other kid’s comment.

Time to sue the school. Stupid leftard principal turned super snowflake and had his panties in a twist..and F U cops for arresting someone who’s 1st amendment was disrespected.
Student was arrested yesterday in Columbus IN after posting a threat on FB.
Can’t find his post or what, if any, search turned up
But telling people you’re going to kill someone...that’s free speech...
...He is wrong, he cannot buy one...
What about a stolen one? Lawbreakers will always get what they want however they can do it.
I see where the ACLU is all over this (s/off)
Cant find his post or what, if any, search turned up
An incident today at one of our local high schools where a student accused another student of making violent threats. Naturally, all the "adults" freaked out and the police were called, media notified, etc...
After missing the hundreds of red flags that Nikolas Cruz was waving prior to his killing spree, I expect school officials to now overreact about everything as a result.
“could” is subject to many meanings. It is a big English weasel word. So obviously the worst interpretation was taken, as if he had said “I want to buy ...”.
In today’s combative, confrontational, “zero tolerance” world, he was grabbed and persecuted. For words.
Anyone still think there’s free speech?
Ever make a mistake in speaking at an airport? “ooooo, you said the wrong word! jail for you!”
