American ski racer Lindsey Vonn became emotional after she missed out on gold in after a solid run that may be her final downhill race of her Olympic career.
Vonn, who finished 0.47 seconds behind leader Sofia Goggia of Italy, took home bronze, also hit back at the cruel internet trolls who have targeted her after she claimed her bronze medal.
The skier faced taunts and abuse after she said President Donald Trump did not represent her.
When asked by DailyMail.com about the savage abuse she had received, she said: 'I agree it has been "savage abuse."'
'I think the most important thing about social media is to be who you are and remember that everything on social media lasts forever. Social media can be used in a very positive way if you are a good person.
'But I feel recently it has taken a different turn and I hope that instead of tearing people down we can build people up.
'Sports is supposed to be about uplifting…this is the Olympics. We cheer for every country instead of hoping somebody falls or skis of a cliff and dies.'

No love loss for Miss Vonn, especially for stooping down to Tiger Woods level. Having said that the only two hours of Olympic coverage I have watched was at my 89 year old Fathers house last night, I didn’t have much choice. Vonn was in no way crying because she lost the Gold medal, she was never in first place. Actually she was pretty happy when she crossed the finish line to see she was in 2nd place. Just emotional that essentially her career was now over.
As for being savaged on Social media, did someone put a gun to her head to read it? But she did, so if she is so righteous it should have just rolled off her back. Nope.
At least Tiger Woods did play golf with Trump.
Today’s American athletes don’t perform well against the world.

She’s 33, has no husband or kids. Training has consumed her life. Time to pack it in, and get a real life. Pass on those athletic genes to some kids.
(I speak not of MY athlete days as grade school days: I was nearly a professional. I seek of the media’s silly grade-school popularity contest attitude toward pure athletics.)
