Joe Scarborough often touts his deep roots in the gun culture, growing up in the South. But either he never knew as much about guns as he’s claimed, or his passion for gun control has made him forget or ignore what he once knew.
On today’s Morning Joe, Scarborough repeatedly claimed that the AR-15, used in Parkland and in other mass shootings, is “more lethal” than the M-16. H/t FReeper SnuffaBolshevik.

I don’t own an AR15, I did carry one (M16) in Vietnam for 2 years. Worst piece of unreliable crap I ever seen in my life. It frequently jammed and on one occasion, during a fire fight, nearly got me killed while I was trying to clear the jam and remove the bend round with a screwdriver while the other guys were shooting at me.
And I don’t need to hear that it was caused by rounds firing too fast, In the 2 years I carried that POS, I never fired except on the single shot position (only the first round on auto does goes with any accuracy).
Deliverance Banjo Boy knows about lethality as applied to female campaign workers.
A .22 slug that hits the target is more lethal than a .223 that doesn’t.
Joe, what did you use to beat to death the intern you killed in your office in Congress?

The AR-15 has killed more people in Mass Shooting Incidents in the US than the M-16. It is therefore lethaler.

M-16 fires 5.56mm. They’re loaded a bit hotter then most 223. Some ar-15s will fire 5.56mm too, but most are 223. To the eye you can’t see much difference, but they’re not interchangeable. You could fire 223 in a 5.56mm rifle, but not the other way around. Either way, to say an ar-15 is more powerful than an m-16 is absurd.
You can get ar-15s with other chamberings, but not as common.
How, if they had said an ar-10 is more powerful than an m-16, then they’d maybe have a point, as it stands, they’re just trying to set the stage.

More lethal? My Model 71 Winchester 348 is more lethal than either. And it tells you how much more lethal every time you shoot it. (200gr at 2800 fps, or handload 250gr at 2200 fps)
