HARRISBURG, Pa. Pennsylvania's high court issued a new congressional district map for the state's 2018 elections on its self-imposed deadline Monday, all but ensuring that Democratic prospects will improve in several seats and that Republican lawmakers challenge it in federal court. The map of Pennsylvania's 18 congressional districts is to be in effect for the May 15 primary and substantially overhauls a congressional map widely viewed as among the nation's most gerrymandered. The map was approved in a 4-3 decision. Most significantly, the new map likely gives Democrats a better shot at winning seats in Philadelphia's heavily populated and moderate suburbs, where Republicans had held seats in bizarrely contorted districts, including one labeled "Goofy Kicking Donald Duck."

They’re setting things up for their messiahs return in 2020: Hillary F. Clinton. I still say she is going to run, I would bet a fortune on that but I’m broke, but make no mistake - she feels it is her destiny. She is on a mission from Satan. Get prepared to hear “WHY AREN’T I 50 POINTS AHEAD!!” again.
Look at 13. You will change your mind. They gave them a shot to do it over and made it worse.
Irrelevant. The President goes for the whole state.
appeal the the USSC.... courts cannot do this....
That’s a fine looking map LOL
You’re misinformed, sir.
The legislature did come up with a map. Passed and signed by then Governor Corbett and went into effect with the 2012 elections.
This is an illegal and unconstitutional judicial fiat by a Democrat court that doesn’t like it has a Republican majority. Again, this is an ILLEGAL and UNCONSTITUTIONAL order that has no grounding in law. It is a partisan Democrat power grab to STEAL seats from the Republican majority to give to the Democrat minority.
Lawmakers did their job. This is a lawless court that must be impeached for their tyrannical and unconstitutional actions.
I am sure they will. Of course they didn’t take North Carolina so who knows. I just think the Republicans didn’t have to make it so obvious. That map at 13 is just ridiculous. Our message is what gets wins not stupid tricks. That is why we won in 2016. Message.
In the end, if elected represenatives are incapable of drawing a coherent map because it conflicts with their own interests then who should remediate the issue?
In any case a there should be no bulges or boots, the lines should be relatively smooth and the similar interests of the people located therein should be the driving force.
That the court felt compelled to do it speaks badly of the politicians of PA. The same thing happened in New York and in the end it was better for the people.
If the Republicans come up short, then go and win those seats instead of bitching.
Wow. LOTS of Red in Pennsylvania... More than I realized.
We have an elected legislature who is the sole authority for this change.
Furthermore, we don't have a 2A because of Heller. Heller didn't apply anywhere except in Washington DC, and the Federal Lands. The decision that incorporated Heller against the States was McDonald v. Chicago.
Neither of those decisions would have been necessary had the Supreme Court not meddled in the first place, in United States v. Miller (1958) in which the Supreme Court improperly--and deliberately--misunderstood the application of "militia" in 2A.
Courts need to keep their noses out of things that are none of their f****ing business.
Well see. The same people are voting. So it shouldn’t affect the outcome. If some Republicans go to a district with Democrats, the Republican running should convince Democrats to vote for them like Trump did. If you want to win bad enough, you have to work for the votes. I am quite frankly sick of the entire House not lifting a finger election time because they pretty much automatically win. Let’s have these politicians work for their money for a change. We all want term limits....well a way to do this is during primaries. I bet you will see candidates out working harder then ever before.
you misunderstand my point.... courts cannot draw districts... politicians do that.... send this back to the state legislature for redrawing.... if the courts say no, then THEY have assumed the role of elected officials..... unconstitutional...
The legislature DID come up with a map. The PA Supreme Court had ZERO authority to invalidate it.
If you want all that then you really need to amend the US Constitution.
The Constitution is silent on all of that. It merely says that drawing the lines is the job of the State Legislature.
Part of the chaos in this country is that people keep using the Courts to short-circuit the duly provided Constitutional processes.
The ball is in the republican’s hands. Let’s see what they do with it.
Oops. Looks like they did.
You're advocating that Courts usurp Constitutionally appointed authority. NO conservative believes that.
politicians, in general, suck canal water.... i will be watching this one closely...
My question too. Aren’t they supposed to be apolitical?
