A top official at the Air Force Academy apologized for microaggressions that appeared in a school-wide email on haircut standards amid backlash to a reference to NBA great Michael Jordan.
Cadets received the email on Wednesday from Master Sgt. Zachary Parish commenting on haircuts that did not meet the Academys standards and cast a negative impression on the cadet population and armed service members at large.
Parish went on draw a comparison to Jordan.
"He was never seen with a gaudy chain around his neck, his pants below his waistline, or with a backwards baseball hat on during public appearances," the email read.
A number of cadets saw the sergeants reference as a derogatory dig at African-Americans, stirring controversy on campus in Colorado, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette.
Vice-commandant of cadets, Col. Julian Stevens, sent an apology on behalf of the academy for the inappropriate comments, explaining they were no way reflective of the Air Force Academy.
Stevens also referred to Parishs comments as microaggressions."
"Microagressions such as these are often blindspots/unintentional biases that are not often recognized, and if they are recognized they are not always addressed," Stevens wrote.
Does that include the thousands of airmen who lost their lives over Europe, Vietnam or in the Pacific?
Give Master Sgt. Zachary Parish a COmmendation.
We need the Air Force and the Navy to raise the cumulative IQ of our Armed Force’s,otherwise the IQ is about 79.
The Air Foce becomes a little more little-girlish every year.
I remember being dressed down by an Officer for about 5 minutes for having a shirt button unbuttoned. A day later a gig arrived at my unit and I had to pull extra duty. This was back in the 60’s.
The USAF did not exist in 1944. His friend was in the Army.
It sounds like saying that Obama is “clean and articulate.”
If these Cadets can’t handle “microaggressions,” then they shouldn’t be anywhere around real aggressions after their graduation.
My service was as honorable as yours, Jarhead.
Colonel, USAF (ret)
PC is a micro aggression which clouds clear thinking, and makes stupidity publicly acceptable.
I am a 1992 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. I have continued to be embarrassed by my alma mater. The new superintendent, General Silveria is a real POS. Arrogant elitist who thinks he is better than his own cadet wing and all the graduates that came before and will come after him. He is the progressive, who made a speech to his cadet wing branding them all as racists for the fake racial attack perpetrated by black prep school students on themselves.
We had an alumni reception in New York City a few weeks ago, and they couldnt pay people to attend. I communicated to the Academy that under no circumstances would I waste my time to listen to his elitist rhetoric and neither will they ever receive another dollar from me for any of their athletic or academic programs while he is the Supe. The Academy has fallen far down the abyss of politically correct institutions far more so than even west point or Annapolis its really sad and depressing. But this BS started years ago with Mikey Weinstein who is constantly suing the Academy for religious intolerance and the Academy continues to guve into him.
Microaggression?
Drop and give me 30 pushups
Where do I get my education and certificate to call balls and strikes on these so called microagressions?
And the Navy slept in heated bunks, and ate in a covered cafeteria.
Infantry = taking ground, mostly by crawling over it.
Air Corps = semi-fixed location as required for the aircraft.
I’m not sure what making those pilots sleep in the mud would have accomplished.
All of the military services will be absolutely paralyzed if this sort of “microagression” b.s. is allowed to continue.
Mattis needs to shake things up and get rid of as many politically correct morons as possible.
Nice, nice hahaha!
In Iraq war they had air conditioned tents
“The Air Force has always been a brigade of wimps...just unadulterated truth.”
You mean wimps like my Dad, who flew in WW2, Korea & Vietnam, and who died at 49 in Vietnam?
I was a 90 Day Wonder myself. Never saw any indication the Academy grads were superior to ROTC or OTS folks. But the Academies - NOT just the USAF one - all seem to have become embarrassments to the military & the USA. No one in the military seems wiling to fight back.
