My hunch is that the last name “Cruz” reflects the fact that the adoptive father is of Latin ancestry, not at all uncommon for a Florida resident. The spelling of the name “Nikolas” seems Russian; the fact that he was adopted as an infant; that his parents were about 50 when they adopted him; that his physical features appear Fetal Alcohol Syndrome-related; all lead me to believe the Cruzes adopted both infants from Russia and that at least the shooter's biomom had been drunk on vodka throughout most of her pregnancy.
My cousin adopted two Russian siblings with Fetal Alcohol syndrome. Both of the kids have had real struggles, despite having the best loving parents that gave them every opportunity.
The adoptive dad, Roger Cruz of Long Island, was in his 60’s when they adopted Nik and then 2 yrs. later Zach. Both were infants. Mom -Lynda Cruz was in her 50’s. In Lynda’s obit photo holding infant Nik, he was wearing a type of Russian sailor hat and outfit.
Roger Cruz’s brother-in-law in NY is named Kumbatovic. The boys were reported to be half brothers. They may have soaked in the same distilled Stolichnaya- womb in Russia prior to shipment to the USA.
Russia wins again, and it’s Clinton’s fault. They were both exported during his tenure.
Children Adopted From Russian Orphanages Have High

A new review of studies finds high rates of fetal alcohol syndrome in children who are adopted from Russian and Eastern European orphanages, or who are in foster care ...
BINGO!! I noticed that, too, but hadn't said anything here. It's just weird how we haven't heard much at all about this young man's background. You would think the media would be all over that. Or, maybe not, given the state of the American media today.
