Amid ICE raids in workplaces and neighborhoods across the United States, some residents are worried about a topic that may come up in the 2020 Census for the first time in 70 years: their immigration status.

Which is exactly why illegal aliens should not be counted in the census. Why should my representation in Congress be diluted by a non-citizen foreign national?
Agreed!
I’m not afraid.
I too only answer the number of citizens living at my address.
The rest can go hang.
If yes, please complete the census form.
If no, discard the census form and return to your country of origin.
Thank you.
Why would “residents” be concerned about anyone asking about their immigration status, Ms Sanchez?
Please explain.
That's 70 years of the federal government NOT doing the right thing for America.
It seems like darn near everyone in the world has US senators or congressmen looking after their interests except US citizens and working taxpayers.
ASK THE QUESTION: Are YOU a U.S. CITIZEN, or NOT???
Citizens and legal resident aliens won't be worried ...
ASK the question! And eliminate the part about “middle eastern” that bammy wanted put on the questionaire. (F*ckface didn’t dare put down “M*slim,” but that’s what he meant.) bammy wanted to create a new, big and growing government-certified victim group.
(bammy = f*ckface, in case you didn’t get that).
The 1920 census, 100 years prior, does not ask a person’s citizenship. It does ask for the “place of birth” and “mother tongue” of the respondent, their mother and their father.
Bump!
Didn’t they ask on the census before if there were guns in the home?
Good point.
I’ve heard that some estimates, are that California would lose at least 3 House seats, if illegals weren’t counted in previous censuses.
The same could be true of some other immigrant heavy states such as New York.
Since the purpose of the census is determining Congressional representation, and since illegals or legal resident aliens are not allowed to vote, the numbers of non citizens should not be involved in determining Congressional representation.
Because the census is critical to setting political representation at all levels of government, an accurate census is the bedrock of fair political representation.
Right now places like Santa Clara County (San Jose) and Los Angeles County are $hitting bricks over this potentially “new requirement,” because LA county alone could “loose” up to six House Seats if the Census is able to weed out illegals. Just wondering how this requirement would affect other states like Texas, Arizona and Florida? Taking the approximately 5 million illegals in LA County out of the census figures would really make a big dent in their political clout.
I have a solution to this “problem:”
IF YOU ARE IN AMERICA ILLEGALLY, LEAVE! Then, you will not have to worry about the 2020 Census!
Illegal MUST NOT be counted! Representation of them in our Congress is treason!
A unanimous Supreme Court ruled Monday that illegal immigrants and other noncitizens can be counted when states draw their legislative districts, shooting down a challenge by Texas residents who said their own voting power was being diluted.
