sudents at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High may not have to return to the three-story building that was the site of the deadliest school shooting in Florida history.
The school district has proposed tearing down the building on campus that housed freshmen, Broward Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie said Friday. It was the spot where many of the 17 students and faculty were murdered Wednesday by a gunman with an AR-15-style weapon. Former student Nikolas Cruz has been charged with the killings.
Weve received numerous requests from parents, students, community members and local elected officials that they would like the building demolished and some memorial resurrected on the site, Runcie said.

A school building for 4000 students cannot be cheap. So they plan to destroy a perfectly good building because it brings back bad memories?
How about just remodeling some of the areas where the killings happened?
Talk about a bunch of snowflakes.
They want to tear it down and forget it happened? Fix it up and attend classes there with reverence and purpose.
You can be sure that this will become the norm when it happens again. Not just schools, but everywhere it happens will need to be torn down and rebuilt.
With OUR money of course.
Stupid emotionalism. No one should pay a dime for this other than those who want the demolition. Raise funding through donations. No taxpayer funding.
How about tearing down the FBI?
Emotions based decision making and blowing taxpayer money is the usual Democrat response to everything. They love blaming inanimate objects almost as much as spending other people’s money.
Hear, Hear!
+1
I wonder what would happen if every time there were a traffic fatality they closed that section of road and built a new section of road on an alternate route.
The county is 100% Democrat. They don’t let tragedies go to waste.
This I the kind of “non-thinking” that led to the tragedy!
“I feel bad when I see the building. Let’s build a new building! Now I will feel good!”
“If we institutionalized Cruz he might feel bad, which would make us feel bad. We will keep him ‘main streamed ( meaning in the public!)’ and giving him counseling. He’ll feel better about himself and we will feel good to!”
Also don’t discount the fact that all the institutions that dropped the ball might have been afraid of the lurking “civil rights” attorney ready to pounce and make sure Cruz is treated like a normal person (which he isn’t!) plus make a tidy sum for themselves on the side.
Dont you know? The tax payers have money to burn. What a waste.Newtown Connecticut did the same thing.Rhat was also very stupid. They could have renovated the place it would have been much cheaper in the long run.Especially for a near bankrupt state like Connecticut.
Sure, raise taxes.
Shush! Don’t give anyone that idea!
The Broward District needs to change their 2013 policy which forbids the Broward schools from informing the police about juvenile delinquents committin crimes in their schools. The police are not notified or called; they handle it all internally (boy sits in the corner.)
Perhaps the dumbest idea I have ever heard. The worst thing you can ever do for terrorism is to show that you caneed be manipulated into throwing the baby out with the bath water. This will only encourage more nuts to pull more massacres knowing that they can live on after death.
Build another building on some different property. Keep the
building and turn it into something like a mental health facility
House the patients, etc.
How very Stalinesque of them !
