Florida shooting: Teachers 'were warned' about Nikolas Cruz

Teachers were warned in advance about the teenager who allegedly carried out a mass shooting at his former school in Florida, US media are reporting.

Nikolas Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder following the deadliest shooting at a US school since 2012.

A teacher said Mr Cruz was not allowed on campus with a backpack.

Seventeen people were killed in the attack and many more injured. Several people are in a critical condition. Mr Cruz, 19, apparently left the scene of the shooting by blending in with fleeing students, but was arrested several miles away and is now in police custody. What was the warning?

Maths teacher Jim Gard told the Miami Herald that school authorities had emailed teachers about Mr Cruz's behaviour.

"We were told last year that he wasn't allowed on campus with a backpack on him," Mr Gard told the Miami Herald. "There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus."

“NOT insisting on mainstreaming mentally ill kids into schools with normal kids would prevent a lot. “

YES. I once dropped in on a Broward kindergarten class and found a boy locked inside by himself, the rest the class at the cafeteria. Teacher was gone.

I awaited her returned. She had grabbed lunch and would eat in the classroom to supervise Ryan. Ryan, a real cute freckled faced ‘Norman Rockwell” looking kid who looked like an innocent from a distance. But he was a COMPLETE PSYCHO.

He could not handle people within an eight foot radius (which was marked off for him in the classroom) and would attack the other children, frequently. Mrs. Hall routinely restrained Ryan with her huge bear hugs until he calmed down. he could not handle PE, recess, lunch or music class. He spent his time isolated in ‘his 1/3 of the class room’ with a head set on sitting at the computer.

He was on meds, parents were trying, teacher was exhausted, but he was born psycho and belonged elsewhere. It was totally unfair to the teacher and the rest of the little kids in the class and that school.

****** Broward County Schools******* has a habit of mainstreaming psychos and collecting the additionally state & federal funding that accompanies these kids.

Didn’t the superintendent say he had no knowledge of the threat? Obviously thinks he did something bad enough to have to lie...

Put together a list of people in your family and extended acquaintances and make notes about their intelligence and mental acuity. The results will be clear when you get a sample of 15-20 teachers in your group.

Then sit down with anyone who was worked with them professionally (their accountants, lawyers, etc.) and get their take on them, too.

Teachers are the most passive, inert people I've ever dealt with in my life.

“Hollyweird and gaming.”

Those are not persons interacting with children. Those are activities that can be monitored and policed by (responsible) parents. Apples & oranges.

Show ID and everyone goes through a metal detector at school’s entrance.

Teachers armed.

Armed police on every floor.

School on lockdown during session.

Built in automatic ceiling turrets in every classroom.

One Ed-209 on patrol 24/7.

It’s not a new tactic. The columbine shooters did the same thing

I believe you. In Florida, a fair number of teachers were unable to pass the 8th grade exit exam for HS admission.

Sometimes there is no choice. DH and I adopted our granddaughter in our mid 50’s. What were we supposed t do? Let her drug addled parent raise her with whatever drug dealer her mother moved in with?

Unfortunately I used to live about 3 blocks from Columbine HS and vividly remember that day.

Why do we have fire drills in schools, but no mass shooting drills?

Some schools have implemented Intruder or Lockdown Drills, though I'm not sure how common they are throughout the country.

“Malcolm and Christine Roxburgh were neighbors of the Cruz family for many years. “It was a wonderful idea. Two older people to have two little boys to look after. They were just kind people.”

——>>> Christine said Lynda asked her daughter, who lives up north, to take the kids when her husband died, but she refused. <<<<———

Mother Cruz did not want her sons anymore. She could not deal with them! She wanted to ship them up North to a neighbors daughter? Hello!

We need to find out how long ago Cruz’s dad died.

President Trump needs to make a statement to look into why the FBI didn’t act on this. Someone needs to be fired.

The minute a kid conveys a threat...it ought to be removed from the school’s mission in life (automatic one-year suspension), and handed to a judge. Bring the kid in and let the legal system convey to the kid that this type of anger and bad behavior won’t be accepted.

I’ve thought about that and it’s interesting and interesting question. I’d venture to say that most either come from broken single-parent families or absent parents who could care less about their kids.
