Lemme guess - it is a defining moment for the same reasons that 10 years ago the election of Obama was a defining moment for Black America? We’ve advanced so much since those heady days.../s

Maybe; I suspect this is just being hyped because low-information types are the last ones that can actually be swayed to lay out money for the bread-and-circuses economy.

Defining moment my rear. We are supposed to be aracial. Whites in particular have been browbeat that race is just a skin color. Character not race and all that yet all we hear about is race. From white privilege to black pride and a racial list a mile long.

On second thought maybe it is a ‘defining moment’. The moment that whites realize it is all a façade. It isn’t about being colorblind just blind. All a bunch of disarming crap directed only at whites as we plunge into a multicultural, multiracial hellhole.

If your cultural ‘defining moment’ is a Hollywood movie, you have a really shallow culture.

Sure; the same if you’re cultural defining moment occurs within a sporting event like football. It speaks volumes about your culture, as well as the fans of the movie or sport.

“Important football game” is a contradiction ... unless you personally have some real stake in it. Like a paycheck, for example.

We used to watch "Zorro" and other Latino hero type movies with our now adult kids because of their positive portrayal of Latino men or women fighting for just causes. I can relate for the need but I've seen so many positive roles for black men, many based on life stories ("Gifted Hands - The Ben Carson Story" being the last we saw) that it's hard to justify or process the overhype for this release.

You know if it leads to a reduction in black crime and black murder rates I’m all for it. If it raises their feeling of self worth encouraging family and values all the better. If it encourages more blacks to Fulfill their education then that’s just as good to.

Rush was all wound up about this. Rarely is he wrong, but he missed this one. Because, he failed to know: black kids don’t go to the movies anymore.

It’s sad when the only roll models your race has are comic book characters

I don’t know anything about the storyline, but it sucks that you can’t get an honest review of the film without provoking public backlash. If I paid for Hollywood movies anymore, this would bother me as a consumer.

In general, I kind of resent the idea of a superhero in which his/her race is central to the character, and the idea that his name is shared by a modern-day black supremacist organization isn’t helping either. I realize this character was created long ago, but I don’t think those considerations would be overlooked if this were a reboot of a sort of X-men group of white superheroes called The Clan.

Because the movie and all of the hype is propaganda, intended to perpetuate the myth (that is actually taught in America's universities and colleges) that blacks came from an advanced civilization in Africa and their history was "stolen" by white Europeans. Not only that, but the propaganda states that blacks are their "Original Humans", and that all other races are "Neanderthal" mongrels.

Listen, I am not making this up. I actually took a Black Studies graduate course, just to see this for myself.

Part of the curriculum was to watch this movie in class. You can find the movie (and trailers) on the web. It is nothing but a Black Supremacist cauldron of hate, lies, and rubbish. It calls for white genocide, says that blacks will become "gods" once whites are eradicated or enslaved, and states that it was really "Blacks from Egypt" who "invented" just about everything, from the fork to astronomy.

Again, I am not making this up.

The movie Black Panther is simply a mainstream attempt at perpetuating this garbage.

Did you see all of the screaming from the "black community" when a forensic anthropologist went on the Today Show, and unveiled a bust that showed what Queen Nefertiti really looked like. Well, the bust didn't look "black" and the nut jobs went ballistic.

Look at this from the NY Times.

Sorry, count me out.

It’s a stupid comic book super hero movie. It is not a defining moment for anyone except the people who are trying to make money off it.

You might as well ask why a Batman movie is a defining moment for billionaires...

Ben Shapiro has some really great commentary on The Black Panther and all of the racial hype:
