The former student suspected of opening fire at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland may have been identified as a potential threat to fellow students in the past, according to one teacher.
The 19-year-old ex-student, who has been detained by Broward police, has not been publicly identified as a suspect. But a law-enforcement source identified him as Nicolas Cruz.
We were told last year that he wasnt allowed on campus with a backpack on him, said math teacher Jim Gard, who said Cruz had been in his class last year. There were problems with him last year threatening students, and I guess he was asked to leave campus.
The Broward County School District Superintendent, however, told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that he did not know of any concerns raised about the student.

“However, no pill tells a kid to shoot up a school.”
Actually, they do. Most of the SSRI types have a warning on the label about it causing suicidal or homicidal ideation. This is especially true if not taken according to instructions.
Gee - I sure hope he wasn’t a Dreamer....
Give it a few days we will learn more.
“There isnt really any value in interrogating him. Not really.”
Absolute and utter nonsense. You don’t think there would have been value in interrogating the Vegas shooter, for example? Since when is having less information better than having more? Never. Since when is willingly not knowing something a good thing?
At which time the threat frequently made by teachers back in the fifties, "An entry in your permanent school record follows you all your life" will become something other than hot air to intimidate the kiddies in second grade.
Is he a citizen? Could he be a DACA kid?
I have yet to hear anything about his status.
DACA was my first thought when I heard the perp’s name over the tactical radio circuit broadcast while I was driving home from work this afternoon.
Pretty sure. The media will NEVER publish that photo, though.
This kid was clearly troubled.
Shovel him off to the experts.
Kids need Discipline which the adults apparently did not have
Some drugs do cause violent tendencies.

Joe, I agree with you that drugs prescribed to young people do not always cause psychological problems. Most of the time, the drugs assist young people in paying attention and they allow students to learn way more efficiently.
That said, if you are older than 50, you know this kind of thing was practically unheard of. Something has changed with students and if it is these drugs, perhaps patients can be screened and taken off medications that may cause a psychiatric break.
Does aint cwazy eyes!
How in the he## was he allowed anywhere near the inside of this school?????
there is the rub
Its not that simple because once youre on these drugs, there can be great difficulty getting off them. I have a friend who tells me that in her grandchilds class almost all children are on drugs. That is hard to believe but she insists. My experience with my mom on these drugs has soured me on the psychiatric profession and I have contempt for them and feel they do more harm than good.
I’ll bet that shirt is photoshopped by tomorrow or the photo will disappear.
He was. He was banned from going to the school with a backpack! I read that! Th yvall knew about him and how nuts he was.
“I would be pleasantly surprised if they would allow us to mourn and pray for the victims, rather than launch right into the gun control debate tonight. I would love to be proven wrong.”
So sorry. You’re not wrong. Bill Nelson jumped right in whining about gun control immediately. And then there was Geraldo.
