Russian fighters were among those killed when U.S.-led coalition forces clashed with pro-government forces in Syria this month, former associates of the dead said on Monday.
A U.S. official has said more than 100 fighters aligned with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad died when coalition and local coalition-backed forces thwarted a large attack overnight on Feb. 7.
Russias Defence Ministry, which supports Assads forces in the Syrian civil war, said at the time that pro-government militias involved in the incident had been carrying out reconnaissance and no Russian servicemen had been in the area.

Rooters is still reporting minimal ethnic Russian casualties (2) while Bumberg and ultra leftist blogs report around 100.

Russian Mercs. “Advisors” to Assad’s forces. Not regular Russian Army. Or so it has been reported.

Rooters and Bumburg is still a lot better than the state sponsored RT news from the non-free country of Russia.

The Bloomberg report says 200 Russians KIA, based on leaks from US and Russian sources. Wouldn’t surprise me if Russian mercs were vanguard units. Iranian, Syrian, Lebanese and Afghans fighting in the regime’s behalf seem to be played-out, morale-wise, despite firepower superiority and air dominance. My impression of Muslim units is that they seem more comfortable in hit-and-run guerrilla-type engagements than in knock-down drag-out fights.
The estimated Russian dead would account for a reduction in the volume of bleats from Turkey about US troops getting killed if they fail to evacuate Manbij. If Uncle Sam has no qualms about tangling with the Russians, is the Turkish invasion force really immune from getting zapped in much the same way?

Russian Mercs.Yes, it appears so, that's why I posted "ethnic Russian" as opposed to Russian troops, they may be private contractors.

Both Turkey and NATO have a lot of splanin' to do.

Well, there goes the harmony between the two from their earlier days of collusion. /sarcasm

Personally, I would favor getting out of Syria. There is nothing to accomplish there.

Why are we in Syria? No, you see, after Afghanistan and Iraq, we've got Regime Change down to a science now, nothing can go wrong this time.

I don’t think Trump will allow hundreds of Americans to be killed just to avoid offending Turkey. The Turks are on notice that they will be splattered if they go after Manbij. Given the way they skedaddled from Syria after losing a Phantom II to the Russians, I think Erdogan understands that it is foolhardy to tug at Superman’s cape.

It’s actually not all that bad. Muslims kill each other, and the resulting intra-Muslim mayhem, along with the over-the-top violence typical among the troglodytes opposed to us, tanks the religion’s reputation. Call it Uncle Sam’s population control initiative for culling Muslim radicals from the gene pool. No USIS campaign could destroy Islam’s reputation as thoroughly as some of these Islamist morons.

Given the way the Russian propaganda organs accused the CIA of inventing AIDS to kill black people, the question you’d have to ask is why anyone should believe anything the Russian “news services” have to say, aside from the weather report.

Obama might be sympathetic towards Muslims, but he’s no Muslim himself. A religiously-observant Muslim wouldn’t touch a dog, let alone eat dog meat. And Obama’s apparently into BBQ (pork) ribs, so that’s another no-no. Among Muslims, these foods are not a guilty pleasure like alcohol - there’s actually a visceral gag reflex that kicks in, without any manual intervention.
