Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) cast the lone vote against bringing a House bill to the Senate floor to being the debate on immigration reform. Senators voted 97-1 in favor of moving the bill forward for discussion. Senator Cruz took the stand based on a long-held belief that there should not be a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. Cruz’ spokesperson, Catherine Frazier told The Hill that the senator “believes it would be a serious mistake for Congress to pass legislation that grants a path to citizenship for those here illegally.”
“Such a policy is inconsistent with the promises that he and Republicans have made to the voters, and is in fact further to the left of President Obama’s position,” Frazier explained.
Despite Cruz’ vote on principle, the House bill which will be used as a vehicle for Senate debate will move forward. Debate is expected to begin on Tuesday.

The only issue up for "debate" will be how many illegal aliens are granted amnesty.
Had he won the nomination, it would have gone to the USSC. Federal Judges get overturned by the USSC all the time. Scalia gave an opinion at one time...Born on US Soil...
Cruz was a citizen, but not a natural born citizen.
By Canadian law, he was a natural born citizen of Canada.
By Cuban law, as his father was a Cuban citizen, Ted was also a citizen of Cuba.
And he is only an American citizen if his mother followed the law by registering his birth with the US Embassy, a document Cruz never produced.
A citizen can be a Senator.
Only a natural born citizen can be President.
Second, Can't we just stop the “Battle of Ted Cruz.” The primary is over, President Trump won, and Ted has supported him about as much as any senator there. Please, let's don't re argue the birth citizenship debate again! If you hate Cruz just keep your hate to yourself.
Third, can't we all agree that Senator Cruz was the lone senator who voted in accord with conservative principles?
Natural born citizens do not need any statute to decide their citizenship.
They are NATURALLY citizens because they could not possibly be anything else, born here of citizen parents.
Study some history and natural law.
Exactly, we need to see Cruz’s immigration file.
One must exist for him to be a citizen at all.
Children born abroad must be recognized by the government as citizen IF the proper forms are filed.
So the Canadian-born Senator Cruz, who has never provided any documents to prove he entered the country legally, is protesting a path to citizenship for those brought here illegally by their parents. That is rich.
The laws of other nations are IRRELEVANT to the US Constitution.
If he runs next time I will vote for him. Only logical one in the old bunch.. except for Trump. Thank god for Trump!

Children of foreign nationals are precisely who the founders were excluding as they are born with divided loyalties, allegiances, citizenships and nationalities.
They are not NATURALLY Americans as they can be something else.
The founders did not think so, that’s why they excluded those born with divided loyalties.
I’m disagreeing philosophically with Senator Cruz’s view. I’m not disagreeing with his commitment to what he feels is the best way to handle the situation.
Ted Cruz will have to cast many more ‘principled’ votes to make up for casting his vote for the bloated budget.
Actually the founders SPECIFICALLY stated so ... in the Constitution itself. It’s called the supremacy clause and can be found in Article VI, clause 2.
Further, it specifically ALLOWED those who were born as citizens of other nations to be considered for office and to become citizens of the US as an exception to the NBC clause.
It was on Tucker last night, you have no immigration vote and chain migration does continue, a million a year. So, that is a trade off, the chain migration immigrants can apply to become citizens. So, one would really have to look into the situation.

Citizens may run for any office.
Only those who are born here of citizen parents and are solely Americans are natural born citizens eligible to be President.
So occording to you if a natural born husband and wife who in the ninth month of conception crossed the border of Mexico and she gave birth an hour later their child would not be eligible for the presidency...you’re argument is absurd!!

Most of them were and grandfathered themselves with the part about “ a citizen at the time”, knowing there could not be a natural born citizen of the new United States for 35 years.
