Canadian figure skater Meagan Duhamel is hoping to win a gold medal in South Korea this month - though no prize could be more life-changing than her previous Pyeongchang souvenir.

Not after last year, when the two-time world champion pairs skater brought home Moo-tae - an affable miniature dachshund mix with big ears, bowed legs and the bad luck of being born into the Korean dog meat trade. Duhamel, a vegan and animal lover, helped rescue Moo-tae by accompanying him on his flight from South Korea to Canada last February. The 2-year-old pup has been living with her and husband/coach Bruno Marcotte in Montreal since, spending his days doing yoga with Duhamel and making friends at the local dog park.

"He's like a saint," Duhamel said.

Taiwan bans human consumption of cat, dog meat It's been a different life for Moo-tae. Like roughly 2 million dogs each year, he was supposed to be raised on a Korean dog meat farm, where conditions are often poor.

Rabbits are not rodents, they are lagomorphs.

Can they eat babies? Is that okay? How about dead body parts, is that okay? How about aborted fetus can they put that in soup? Diane in wisconsin was being sarcastic, all cultures are not equal. Because if that’s true you’re going to tell me that Voodoo and Witchcraft is the same as Christianity or Judaism?

These are animals which have come to trust you, rely on you, and have affection for you.

That would also fit pigs [smarter than dogs but unfortunately tasty], cattle, chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, koi, etc., anything raised by people, except possibly reptiles which don't seem to pay that much attention.

“To a man whose mind is free there is something even more intolerable in the sufferings of animals than in the sufferings of man. For with the latter it is at least admitted that suffering is evil and that the man who causes it is a criminal. But thousands of animals are uselessly butchered every day without a shadow of remorse. If any man were to refer to it, he would be thought ridiculous. And that is the unpardonable crime.”

The Aztecs ate chihuahua. The meat-to-bone ratio must have been appalling, but protein is protein.

Lobsters? They are part of the insect family.

Raw oysters? I'm guessing somebody observed dogs, sea mammals, or birds feasting on them, and decided "why the heck not?"

Although, a woman down in Louisiana ended up with a fatal case of vibrio last year from eating raw oysters.

Of course he eats dog. The meat is tender. It’s tender because they bash the dog in a bag with a stick, to break up the tissue. Quicker than marinade, but rather noisy. Asians as a whole will eat anything that walks, flies or crawls. Four or more years in Indonesia will do that to ya.

They believe that torture makes the meat taste better and the men more virile.

They do horrifically sadistic things to these animals such as hang them on a meat hook and blowtorch them until they die screaming.

Small animals like puppies get boiled alive.

The 17000 dogmeat farms in South Korea are where the dogs live lives of pure hell.

This culture began in South Korea in 1980. I am fighting for those dogs every day to be released from living hell, and I pray for them as well. They never get to play with another dog, chase a ball, eat something that isn't completely disgusting, hear a kind word, or any veterinary care. Many suffer from painful illnesses and injuries.

I call South Korea culture the 4 B's for what the dogs endure. Beating, Boiling, Blowtorching, and Barbarians.

Yeah, that really ticks me off. Not that different from overseas. If you love dogs or cats. AMERICAN dogs and cats, please call your reps to stop them from being butchered for food.

I support HSI, who have closed down ten farms. A drop in the bucket for the remaining 17000 but it's something.

I use social media to spread the word about their lives. Not everyone knows.

I contact reps to ask them to support HR1406 and Hres 401.

I send a bit of cash to a woman in South Korea who is saving as many as she can.

Not much, I guess but their suffering is very close to my heart.

not graphic
