The US has launched rare air strikes in eastern Syria to thwart and attack on allied Kurdish and Arab fighters aligned to Syria's government.
Some 500 fighters had tried to take ground captured from the Islamic State (IS) group by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
SDF and government forces control areas on either side of the Euphrates River.
Some US forces are embedded with the SDF but they suffered no casualties. One SDF fighter was injured, the US officials said.
The pro-government forces had been backed by artillery, tanks and other heavy weaponry when the attacked an SDF headquarters "eight kilometers (5 miles) east of the agreed-upon Euphrates River de-confliction line", US officials said.........

A Syrian military research facility in Damascus hit the other day with Israel blamed again. They seem to hit Assad once a month at least nowadays.
Undermining any understandings between Putin and Trump over Syria?
That and trying to placate Turkey in order to keep them in NATO, something Israel couldn't care less about.
The only understanding is leveraging. Putin is in Syria to leverage over Ukraine, and now we leverage back over SDF. The rest is bull sht blabla
The average person may not see the chess board like you do, but you are right.
All of Putin’s geopolitical gambles are unravelling or set to backfire. Syria and Ukraine etc....
But the real game changer is Iran and all the protests going on. Putin’s staked his game on an alliance with their current regime...but Iran’s a changin’
As is Russia for that matter and the Kremlin knows it...stay tuned.
What we need to do is bloody Erdogan’s nose to such an extent that he stops his adventurism against the Kurds and hides under his desk.
There is a lot of anti-Russia propaganda out there nowadays like some “British intelligence” guy saying there was an explosion on the plane carrying the Polish president and other top officials when it crashed in Russia not too many years ago.
“British intelligence” you mean like Christopher Steele.
I’ve lived in Russia and even though the Dems are twisting the narrative...it was only a matter of time before Russia’s inner unrest and turmoil spilled over.
There is also a lot of Kremlin-linked propaganda which is equally vicious and a lot of Putin-bots on FreeRepublic. Annoys me to pieces. Some may very well be trolls living in Russia but most have never been, are just ignorant, and needed an outlet for their anti-Obama energies for 8 years so Putin became “their guy.”
Actually living under Putin firsthand (for a meaningful amt of time) will give one a diff perspective.
There’s McCrazy in free republic
Regurgitating anti-Putin propaganda spewed by the anti-trump media.
Your post of a few days back keeps up the narrative of a Syrian-Iranian threat to Israel. Israel has its security interests but I am concerned about things getting out of hand in the land of Armageddon (Syria).
The Syrians are trying to take back their country
The audacity
This is a shocking story, the US strike killed up to 100 pro-regime forces. I mean, that’s a lot, the pro-regime could mean anything from Syrian footsoldiers to Russian advisors, Iranians, Hezbollah and so on. This is really something to watch and I already watch the situation like a hawk. Who knows where this could lead. OTOH, it does seem the troops were provoking something.
Agree or not, the top-brass is obviously, running this show. To be a fly on the wall. I look at various websites, “long war journal”, etc. Intriguing situation.

On Wednesday night and Thursday morning, Jan. 7-8, members of the US 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit fired M777 Howitzer guns, backed by air strikes, against Hizballah and pro-Iranian Shiite militia forces operating in the Deir ez-Zour region east of the Euphrates River ... The objects of this lesson were the Assad regime, Turkey, Iran and Hizballah ... On Tuesday, Russian forces took over the Syrian Abu Dhuhour Airport east of Idlib and moved in Russian planes and helicopters. Elsewhere in Syria, they deployed their air defense weapons systems to new positions in the Aleppo and Idlib regions. A Syrian military spokesman announced that all parts of northern Syria were now covered by a comprehensive anti-missile shield. Afrin air space had suddenly become an effective no-fly zone for Turkish air force operations

BBC sourced story, hard to follow, maybe ESL? US forces in Syria/Iraq number a little more than 5000.
So the Russians, the EU, China and the US give material and monetary support to multiple opposing factions in the area from Pakistan to Morocco Then we tsk-tsk about this and that while MILLIONS of military age men are busy killing each other and blowing themselves up. hahahahahaha.... The British perfected this method during their colonial conquest of the world.
The funny thing is that one day the muslims are going to sit down and realize that they're killing each other while everyone else is cheering the destruction. Look at photos of Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and other countries in the 1950's and then today. Now the US is selling oil products to the Middle East..... ain't that a hoot when a plan comes together.
I'm still waiting for the Iranians to discover that 1000 nuclear weapons make you a super power, and ONE nuclear weapon makes you a target.
