House Intelligence memo released: What it says
Washington Examiner ^ | 2/2/18 | Byron York

Posted on 02/02/2018 8:52:17 AM PST by markomalley

The House Intelligence Committee has released its controversial memo outlining alleged abuses of secret surveillance by the FBI and Justice Department in the Trump-Russia investigation. Here are some key points:

* The Steele dossier formed an essential part of the intial and all three renewal FISA applications against Carter Page.

* Andrew McCabe confirmed that no FISA warrant would have been sought from the FISA Court without the Steele dossier information.

* The political origins of the Steele dossier were known to senior DOJ and FBI officials, but excluded from the FISA applications.

* DOJ official Bruce Ohr met with Steele beginning in the summer of 2016 and relayed to DOJ information about Steele's bias. Steele told Ohr that he, Steele, was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected president and was passionate about him not becoming president.

The FBI and Justice Department mounted a months-long effort to keep the information outlined in the memo out of the House Intelligence Committee's hands. Only the threat of contempt charges and other forms of pressure forced the FBI and Justice to give up the material.

Once Intelligence Committee leaders and staff compiled some of that information into the memo, the FBI and Justice Department, supported by Capitol Hill Democrats, mounted a ferocious campaign of opposition, saying release of the memo would endanger national security and the rule of law.

But Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes never wavered in his determination to make the information available to the public. President Trump agreed, and, as required by House rules, gave his approval for release.

Finally, the memo released today does not represent the sum total of what House investigators have learned in their review of the FBI and Justice Department Trump-Russia investigation. That means the fight over the memo could be replayed in the future when the Intelligence Committee decides to release more information.

Does the text book have one of those summaries you can get a hold of?

Look for the Dems to leak their 10 page rebuttal resume right away even though the committee has not yet cleared it

I think the Democrat memo would be good to see. Based on what Byron York is reporting, there are several statements of fact in the Republican memo. I'd like to see how the Democrats on the committee explain those.

There is the biggest scandal in histoir. Never have we had the FBI directly working with a Presidential campaign to rig the election.

"If you had no clue about any of this.....and many Americans don’t... This is indeed big news....and only the tip of the iceberg"

Those citizens who regularly listen to the talking head of CNN/MSNBC/The Alphabet News will be predisposed to dismiss this, although they might wonder what the fire & light show was about at the media and DOJ/FBI? Why are they fussing so much about exposing this when it's already been explained away as Republican hype?

A curious mind might want to know where the threats to national security are at which were supposedly contained in this memo? But the koolaid drinkers aren't known for questioning minds I suppose?

Where’s the part that shocks the conscience?

The whole thing. The FBI lied to the FISA court. They didn't tell them this was a political document. They relied on media reporting (based on leaks from Steele and the FBI) to prove the importance of the document. And then there's the Ohr angle. AND Rod Rosenstein resubmitted the dossier to continue surveillance on Carter Page. This is huge.

We knew this but the vast majority of Americans have NO IDEA that any of this happened. They still think DJT and Putin were holding secret meetings to overthrow the country.

So, Hillary paid McCabe $700,000.00 (via his wife’s campaign) to pull these shenanigans?

Did Mueller know the wiretaps were gained by fraudulent evidence? If he did he needs to resign and close this fake Russian investigation.

Msm won’t be able to hide this.

You wanna bet? This is Super Bowl weekend, and the "cheater of all cheaters", the Patriots, led by the "GOAT cheater" Tom Brady are playing. And we all know that deflating footballs (or not) is a far worse offense than influencing the election of the President of the United States.

I'm guessing that this story will be buried by the MSM deeper than the Mariana Trench.

Does this not immediately render the Mueller investigation illegitimate and unnecessary?
