Stephen King apologizes for mocking Republicans in train wreck

Those who follow him on Twitter know that horror author Stephen King has been a rather tough and consistent critic of Donald Trump and the GOP.

But on Thursday that iconic IT author posted a tweet that he ended up walking back.

First, King fired off a snark tweet about the West Virginia accident where a train carrying dozens of members of Congress, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, hit a truck on the way to a Republican retreat:

Stephen King‏Verified account @StephenKing

A trainload of Republicans on their way to a pricey retreat hit a garbage truck. My friend Russ calls that karma. 9:00 AM - 1 Feb 2018

But then readers told him the accident was fatal to the truck driver. So then he came back with this:

✔ @StephenKing

Of COURSE sorry the truck driver died. 11:20 AM - Feb 1, 2018

And then, upon further reflection, just went ahead and apologized:

A rather thoughtless tweet from me concerning the train-truck crash, for which I apologize (if one is necessary). It should be pointed out, too, that those Republican politicians, who can be heartless when they vote, immediately got out to help. 4,694 replies 775 retweets 10,605 likes

Adding to the confusion: The driver was actually misreported as having died. According to CNN, the driver was seriously injured but is still alive. The wreck did cause one fatality, however, a passenger who was not a member of Congress. Otherwise, the accident caused minor injuries. “Today’s incident was a terrible tragedy,” Ryan tweeted. “We are grateful for the first responders who rushed to the scene and we pray for the victims and their families. May they all be in our thoughts right now.”

King later retweeted a call for a GoFundMe for the victim:

I met King at Tropicana field some years ago He’s a Red Sox fan (sidebar: I have been to Fenway a few times).

Anyway, I asked him how he was doing, and he said “okay,” and I wished him a speedy recovery. It was a cordial 2-3 minutes

Of course he didn’t know I was a conservative.

"King is a nearsighted, bucktoothed, knee-jerk lefty tool, Jim." Image and video hosting by TinyPic "But his apology sounds as sincere as alien saltsucker Kathy Griffin's, as well as all the planet Hollywood sex perverts."

You would think that someone who almost lost his life because of being hit by a car would have some empathy.

When Mr. King was hit by that car, I felt bad for him.

Now, perhaps, I’ll look at his accident as a form of pre-emptive cosmic justice.

I look at it as a cosmic reboot attempt that failed.

Apology not accepted. I will never accept an apology from a hateful liberal.

Horrors! Stephen King’s WZON AM 620 Bangor ME has dropped progressive talk for oldies (mostly) as of yesterday.

Post found on radioinsight.com:

>>Stephen King’s Bangor AM station, WZON, is dropping its Progressive Talk format as of today in favor of an almost-but-not-quite 24/7 oldies format, “Retro Radio,” which will broadcast music of the ’60s and ’70s. Nothing has yet been said in the local media about the change, but from what I can gather, the station’s “Downtown” 3 to 6 afternoon talk show will continue, as will the 6 P.M. simulcast of WABI-TV’s evening newscast. WZON has had an all-oldies weekend format for a couple of years.

There aren’t too many progressive talk shows available so it’s tough to do it as a whole format. I think it’s still on WKVT in Brattleboro VT
