Many of the so-called Dreamers worried about their immigration status are starting to reconsider their opposition to a possible wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a report Friday from the San Francisco Chronicle.
President Donald Trumps wall at the border wouldnt be so bad, some groups are now saying, so long as it means citizenship for the nearly 700,000 people brought into the country through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
If building a wall leads us to having citizenship, then Im all for it, Ana Rodriguez, who works at a daycare center in California, told reporters at the Chronicle. The U.S. is what I know and thats where I want to live my life I want to be a part of it in full.
Rodriguez and others like her are arguing about accepting a trade-off giving Trump his wall in exchange for retaining DACA. The Trump administration proposed a bill earlier this month offering citizenship to 1.8 million illegal immigrants in exchange for $25 billion for a border wall.
Activist organizations have also noted that DACA recipients are making recalculations about their opposition. Marissa Montes, co-director of the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic in Los Angeles, noticed in recent weeks that they are sounding more and more likely to back a wall in exchange for citizenship.
Its coming from a point of exhaustion theyve tried everything, Montes told reporters. Their instinct is survival and as human beings, how much longer can they endure this? Theyre ping-ponging back and forth.
(snip)
Recent polling shows Hispanics are evenly split on whether to combine a DACA deal to the building of a wall 42 percent of Hispanics oppose it and 42 percent support it, according to the Quinnipiac poll conducted Jan. 18.

If you think signing this deal stops illegal immigration, you’re fooling yourself.
The only thing that stops illegals is a wall and border security. That’s it.
Amnesty encourages illegal immigration. Thanks Reagan.
If we are not willing to remove the ones already here, as you contend, what makes you think new arrivals will be removed?
Classes in Mexifornia are taught in Spanish. A high school exit exam had to be instituted because kids were graduating without being able to read or write or do math at a 6th grade level. So we cant trust education liberals to assimilate these illegals or to judge if they are proficient in english.
IF they are convicted of stealing indentities - i bet few are even apprehended currently.
Yes, a bit of hero worship going on.
Unless he gets everything (wall, expedited removals, end anchor babies and chain migration, end lottery, dramatically lower legal immigration, stricter enforcement for jobs and benefits) in exchange for a very limited and strictly defined (like those already enrolled) amnesty that cannot be widened, we are still losing our country.
Start the process, but state that it won't be finalized until the last chain-link/brick in the Wall is installed. Watch how fast that will go up then.
“Yep. Soon DACA kids will be rioting at Dem Congresscritter offices demanding they accept Trumps deal. Popcorn time. “
It sure would be weird if those voting illegally
started voting Rep.
Bet the dems would want voter ID then. ha ha
President Trump is the only one really trying to fix the immigration problem.
Perhaps he has compassion for good DACA people and may give them a rigorous program to stay here. If you are a DACA with worthy American intentions you would appreciate his efforts.
“And a job, and 12 years with no food stamps, etc ..”
How about 12 MONTHS with no food stamps/welfare?
And no voting rights for 10 years.
12 years to redeem your parents crimes works for me, that is if they aren’t already criminals.
Indians slaughter the Queen’s English. No more HB1 visas either.
But why would you give illegal aliens bennies that IMMIGRANTS are prohibited from having...
When I IMMIGRATED I swore under oath that I would not ever as an IMMIGRANT apply for welfare food stamps etc or I would be deported and I knew I must not vote until I was naturalized as an American citizen...
BTW the moment these illegal aliens are given American citizen status they are eligible to vote and get welfare/food stamps...otherwise they would be denied equality under the Constitution...how would you get around that ???
we don’t have an “immigration problem”
we have an illegal alien problem...
You mean then the parents get amnesty ? Because that is what will happen.
So many on this thread appear to be in favor of amnesty now.
They have learned from the Republican leaders. Cave at all costs. Cave before you even start negotiating.
If you look at the other side, they never cave. Even when they were losing, even when they are exposed, even when they are embarrassed they just keep going.
Our side needs to learn from that! We supposedly have principles and convictions and honesty and truth on our side. We have no reason to cave!
That's all it's ever taken, someone with the balls to do it. Finally we have someone who speaks truth to power. Sure, President Trump's a bit "rough around the edges" and at times phrases things in a way that make me cringe --- so what! He's from New York and that's how New Yorker's do things. Been to NYC, love the people. They're gruff, blunt, to the point and can be a bit rough but hey - that's New York baby!
So true!
No se rinde!
I think it’s hilarious - Trump cornered the rats. If I were DACA I’d suddenly be supporting Trump.
I think trump should wait about 6 months and the have the republican party with present the bill that he was willing to sign into law with all the bills and whistles that us republicans want, end chain migration, set up a merit based immigration system , build the wall and make the dreamers wait 12 years to become actual citizens with a los of there status if they are conducting criminal activity during that 12 year period .
the idea is to force the democrat party to vote yay or nay
stress that because of the fact that it is bi-partisan i9t wont pass unless democrats vote for it...don’t hassle any republican that cant vote for it because at this point it is wedge issue vote. if it passes we get what we want, if it does not pass it hurts the democrat party with the base.
I my self wish that we were not giving in on Dacca but I believe ending chain migration funding the wall and going to a merit base immigration policy is more important and willing to let the republican party to bend to get this
What does that mean? Eight years of forced Spanish classes in Texas and I proudly manage to not learn a thing while getting As!
