Many of the so-called Dreamers worried about their immigration status are starting to reconsider their opposition to a possible wall at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to a report Friday from the San Francisco Chronicle.
President Donald Trumps wall at the border wouldnt be so bad, some groups are now saying, so long as it means citizenship for the nearly 700,000 people brought into the country through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
If building a wall leads us to having citizenship, then Im all for it, Ana Rodriguez, who works at a daycare center in California, told reporters at the Chronicle. The U.S. is what I know and thats where I want to live my life I want to be a part of it in full.
Rodriguez and others like her are arguing about accepting a trade-off giving Trump his wall in exchange for retaining DACA. The Trump administration proposed a bill earlier this month offering citizenship to 1.8 million illegal immigrants in exchange for $25 billion for a border wall.
Activist organizations have also noted that DACA recipients are making recalculations about their opposition. Marissa Montes, co-director of the Loyola Immigrant Justice Clinic in Los Angeles, noticed in recent weeks that they are sounding more and more likely to back a wall in exchange for citizenship.
Its coming from a point of exhaustion theyve tried everything, Montes told reporters. Their instinct is survival and as human beings, how much longer can they endure this? Theyre ping-ponging back and forth.
(snip)
Recent polling shows Hispanics are evenly split on whether to combine a DACA deal to the building of a wall 42 percent of Hispanics oppose it and 42 percent support it, according to the Quinnipiac poll conducted Jan. 18.

I don’t believe the headline for a second.
An accent will diminish over time. If accents are such a problem to you, how do you manage with American citizens who stutter or, as you say, have a heavy lisp? What about citizens who are mildly retarded and have a speech impediment of one degree or another?
I work as a court reporter and hear all types of accents and speech impediments. If you take the time to listen carefully, almost anything is understandable eventually so long as it's in English.
Nope, just end chain immigration and give them the option: that puts the onus on them. We're not breaking up anything. If they want to keep the whole family together, they are making the choice to leave.
Agreed ...
I bet if Trump had floated this idea of a wall for amnesty of 1.8 million gringos when he ran, he would have been tossed aside as a fraud.
And I bet there will be more statues of Trump than Reagan if he manages to end 50 years of chain migration and gets a wall in exchange for amnestying a couple million people ALREADY HERE. This isn’t a tough issue. Sorry.
Spanish speakers with heavy lisps are almost unintelligible to just about everyone other than other Spanish speakers and stop with the fairness crap. It about teaching them to over come the lisp and speak English correctly which goes with the subject being addressed - to make the better at whatever they chose to do.
I used to teach spoken English how about you?
An there is seldom time to listen patiently while working especially around loud machinery and other noise vectors. If it is not instantly clear it becomes so much garble. Most work environments are not silent like courts where everyone has a turn in turn.
When Obama opened the doors to them, many were sent here with coyotes. This would be considered child endangerment if it happened within the USA.
All it would take is one liberal judge to change that 12 years to immediate citizenship.
Limits on chain migration to minor children and spouses, not an end to it.
If I take my under age children for a many days long risky hike across the hot Arizona desert I could be arrested for child endangerment...
But not the illegal aliens...theyre hailed as heroes...
theres a sick disconnect that everyone seems to ignore...the illegal aliens are not the most careful nurturing parents...they are not a good example of “American citizenship”
“Rodriguez and others like her are arguing about accepting a trade-off giving Trump his wall in exchange for retaining DACA.”
Well, we need to get one thing straight before proceeding any further: Whatever happens with DACA, Illegal don’t have a choice of accepting or rejecting anything. Either we allow them to stay or deport them. If we allow them to remain here, they better be damn grateful and then STFU and assimilate.
“But why would you give illegal aliens bennies that IMMIGRANTS are prohibited from having...”
I wouldn’t. Just throwing ideas against the wall. Like maybe give only Green Card status and no citizenship or path to citizenship.
As for ME... I say gather all of them up and send back every last one of them. Have them find the ends of their lines in their respective counties, haul out their lawn chairs and water bottles, and wait for as long as it takes, even years if necessary.
This is good of Katrina Pierson making good points about DREAMers:

Thank you for the correction.
Even some of the 4 million chainers grandfathered in under Trump’s plan - whom I’m willing to accept in a compromise - will feel like chumps when these DACAs are legalized. Maybe the chainers won’t wait for final approval before crossing; they’ll just go ahead and cross, thinking they will get a future amnesty.
Why must you insist on legalizing 1.2 million illegals, when there are 4 million chainers grandfathered in under Trump’s plan? 4 million hardworking foreign-born folks should make you and your RINO buddies happy, especially when you go down to Mickey D’s for some cheap “food” — yes, I read one of your posts earlier today.
This shouldn’t be a tough issue, but it is. To your point, we’ve been open borders wimps for 50 years....no one has solved it....although I will say that is because most don’t want it solved, especially the democrats, but that’s for another thread..
That said, I agree with you that Trump has been an outstanding President and will be the next best to Reagan....but my point is that if Trump had run on this particular immigration fix, conservatives would have called him out on it and I think many would not have voted for him....I never head Trump scream, who wants amnesty now for 1.8 million plus in exchange for a bunch of promises!!!!!
Cruz was crapped on for merely suggesting an increase in legal immigration...
The problem is this will still be a political wedge issues...if Trump gets his 12 years to citizenship, the first thing out of the next democrats candidate will be, vote for me, I will get you instant citizenship and all your relatives too...
Chain migration will allow the parents to remain. LOOK..it is outrageous to grant ILLEGALS any rights in this country....period. In America we do separate families all the time. IF a parent commits a crime and breaks the law they go to prison or jail and the family is separated so why should the children of illegals be the exception?
A fact so many ignore. I thought Mexico was going to pay for the wall regardless of DACCA...it was going to be done. Now, it is 20 to 25 billion and AMNESTY for ILLEGALS...? no deal. As for breaking up families..it is done in the American legal system every day. IF a father breaks the law he goes to jail or prison and the children go to family or sometimes the system and they are legal citizens so why this big exception for ILLEGALS? boy people sure do the twist and shout and don’t mind being screwed so long as it is there candidate or party doing the screwing. America first..NO deal with the ILLEGALS
not all chain migration. Parents and children still allowed from what I understood so just raise the numbers and why the hell should we have to pay for a wall that Trump said Mexico would pay for
