I make it clear to my relatives, that I love them, but I will not talk politics, you aren’t going to change my mind, and I’m not going to change yours’, so let’s just leave it at that.
I have found that it’s easiest and most productive to talk to some people at their funerals. :-P
Yours is a wise policy. Mine is riskier but I didn’t want my niece to believe that I had summarily written her off.
It was a rocky start, with several abrupt stoppages due to her violations of the ground rules, but I am pleased that we are making some small progress.
With my nephew it stopped before it even started because he wouldn’t abide with the rules. He angrily stomped off and I doubt that we will ever cross paths again.
In both cases to talk or not to talk were their decisions.
