Probably the same reason Apple isn’t building in Detroit. Lack of infrastructure, right?

But aren’t there wealthy Nigerians who will invest? I get emails from Nigeria all the time, in which they offer to share millions of dollars with me. Certainly these Nigerians would welcome investment and out their money there.

Doesn’t Toyota and VW build in Nigeria? If not why not? If we are to become one world should we not all have foreign investments in our countries? Hmmmmmm Haiti comes to mind, but that should be cleared up with Conan shortly, no?

I've never visited West Africa but I've traveled extensively in East Africa and southern Africa and what I saw there explains why no major company (except, perhaps,an oil company or a mining company) would ever set up shop there.

The reason, distilled down to one word,is "primitive".

Hello American friend!

I am General Nbueleke Bzuteli from Nigeria! Recently I have acquired a contract from Samsung for $450,000,000 (FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION) USD to build state of art smartphone factory in beautiful country of Nigeria. I would like to share this windfall with you my friend, if only you can send me your personal bank account details to accept transfer of these funds.

Either build the factory and pay corrupt everybodies, or leave the market.

Nigerians are bigger crooks than Koreans...... Samsung is corrupt to the core

... smartphones made in Nigeria would be more expensive than those imported from Korea.

And yet, Kia and Hyundai, Korea auto companies, assemble cars in Nigeria (as do Ford, Peugeot, Honda, and Nissan). It's a recent development.

Nigeria has its own cellphone companies. There will be ups and downs, but it's not a sure thing that Nigeria won't develop their own telecommunications industry.

I would bet that the main reason is that there are little property rights protections, high crime, and dangerous Muslim terrorists in the country.

There are some YouTube videos on the trials & tribulations of working in Africa posted I guess by the Chinese engineers who are running the projects.

They are very interesting !
