Pennsylvania's Republican-leaning congressional map is illegal and must be redrawn, according to a 4-3 ruling by the Democratic-leaning state Supreme Court.
The 3-page ruling was released this afternoon.
The order says the states 2011 map plainly and palpably violates the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The ruling directs the GOP-controlled Legislature to redraw the map and submit it to Gov. Tom Wolf, a Democrat, by Feb. 9 and the court for approval by Feb. 15. If lawmakers or the governor miss those deadlines, the court would draw its own map based on the evidentiary record developed.
Gerrymandering foes urged to apply pressure A new map would impact the candidates running in the May 18 because those district boundaries could change. Republicans have consistently won 13 of the states 20 congressional seats since the map went into effect in the 2012 election.
Democrats quickly took to Twitter to celebrate the victory. But it could be a short one.

Which NY seats are you concerned about?
Needs to be more generalized than that.
Many of our states do not have nice shapes conducive to just placing similar nice shapes inside.
Violates the VRA.
Funny... how this is only unconstitutional when Republicans do it !
I hope thats true. For some reason I read that this was final order.
11, 19, and 22 for sure and maybe others. Do you agree?
“Extinct” would be nice.
VRA?
Nice shapes are irrelevant.
But if intelligent people do not understand basic algebra ...
I hope SCOTUS saves it.
Demon rats are disgusting.
Voting Rights Act. That’s why we have Black & Hispanic districts, both at the Congressional and state levels that look like Rorschach Test ink blots. Several states that have these must get approval from the U.S. Justice Department before state legislatures can sign off on drawing districts. You can’t just do “rectangular” lines, because it violates this federal act.
Not so fast! State Constitutions can be challenged if they violate the Federal/National Constitution. The Bill of Rights was used often to declare state constitutional provisions invalid; the 14th Amendment applied the Bill of Rights to the states, overriding any state constitutional restrictions on blacks voting, violations of separation of church & state, segregation, etc.
Folks, I am sure the Roberts, Gorsuch, Thomas majority will issue a stay and eventually overturn it. Let’s follow this closely - our country depends on it
The black & hispanic districts violate the black & hispanic people’s rights outside said districts.
So the VRA violates minorities voting rights.
I doubt if VRA says that. Usually it is the leftist fake interpretation of the law.
They can declare the state law unconstitutional, but I’d rather they didn’t. Let them re-draw the map and lose even more. Pennsylvania’s gone red, and it’s not because of any bloody map.
Will check out. thanks.
I know I don’t live in PA, I live in Wisconsin, and we have the same situation where our BLUE counties are greater populated, but the REST of our State ROARED this last time around, as did yours! From what I’m finding on-line, I don’t think you need to take your suicide pill just yet over this, FRiend! :)

I’m in a Black VRA State Senate district. As a White person, my voting rights don’t count in it.
PA has an election in March with district 16 (I think thats the district). Those results will be interesting.
I try not to be reactionary, but its hard. Lol.
