Expect pandemonium. If Congress fails to avert a government shutdown by its Friday deadline, the popular panda cameras at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington will be turned off, according to a statement from the Smithsonian Institution. The Smithsonian's lion and elephant cameras will also go dark if the federal government is shut down, the statement read... "A shutdown will not affect the Zoo's commitment to the safety of staff and the standard excellence in animal care," the statement read.

I'll tell you one thing, Trump isn't going to close the National Mall and post armed guards to chase off veterans trying to visit their outdoor memorials, the way
Obama did.

The pandas might escape and stalk the streets of DC, slaughtering and devouring liberals right and left.I keep predicting that our love of our nuisance deer sooner or later is going to draw some cougars into Rock Creek Park. There are not THAT many deer and sooner or later the cougars will have to wander farther afield with the same effect. I would oppose any government program to shoot cougar at that point on the grounds that this was their planet long before we took it over and ruined it.

I'm guessing the Panda Cam audience demographic is similar to the late-night TV talk show audience demographic.
People with waaaaaaay too much time on their hands, and that don't need get up to go to work in the morning.

Do they have to feed these cameras cash or something?
Are they like the telescopes on the Empire State Building?

An elephant heist would be quite a challenge even with the cams offline.

Animal abuse! Animal abuse! Animal abuse!
Id like to take those filthy, stinking Armadillo abusers and dip their feet in red paint and make them run across some paper!
Poor little Armadillo! He was in shock!
Everyone knows Armadillos like green.
