Feminist slams ‘Fixer Upper’ stars for 5th baby: We need to ‘shame’ them for being ‘irresponsible’

CANADA, January 15, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – “Procreation is becoming a global public health concern, rather than a personal decision,” a feminist wrote for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in an article trashing "Fixer Upper" stars Chip and Joanna Gaines for having a fifth child.

“It's not an exaggeration to say that the survival of our species depends” on population control, Kristen Pyszczyk wrote. Even though population control “carries with it associations with eugenics and other nasty historical events...we still need to talk about it.”

The Gaines couple of HGTV fame announced the existence of their fifth child by posting a photo on Instagram. In it, Chip and Joanna compare their bellies.

“Gaines party of 7.. (If you’re still confused.. WE ARE PREGNANT),” Chip wrote.

His wife shared a video of their baby’s heartbeat on Twitter.

Not everyone is happy the Gaines children each have a fourth sibling, though.

Quoting Stephen Hawking and speculating that humans might need to colonize another planet within 100 years to survive, Pyszczyk urged, “let's lighten the load, friends.”

The idea that procreation is fulfilling needs to be challenged, Pyszczyk wrote, and “women need to be presented with options for a fulfilling life that don't involve taking 20 years of their lives to care for offspring.”

It’s “great” that people are beginning to react in a hostile way to large families, she wrote, but “we need to go much farther.”

Citing carbon footprints, Pyszczyk argued those in the “global West” must be given “alternatives” to the natural family.

“This inevitably involves calling out people who have kids like they're going out of style,” Pyszczyk wrote. “Shame is a powerful tool for changing behaviour: it's how we introduce new and existing social conventions. It's unfortunate that Chip and Joanna bore the brunt of changing attitudes, but let's learn from the reaction and examine our own actions.”

“Procreation is becoming a global public health concern, rather than a personal decision,” she insisted. “So when people do irresponsible things like having five children, we absolutely need to be calling them out.”

Pyszczyk admitted that Canada’s birth rates are plummeting, but suggested that Trump restricting funding for international abortion organizations may increase immigration to Canada.

Pyszczyk also claimed that “as a feminist, I tend to oppose any cultural conversation that involves telling a woman what to do with her body.”

Nevertheless, “changing the narrative around motherhood should help to offset some of the cultural conditioning we receive throughout our lives” and “it's not OK to have five kids without once considering adoption.”

“There are so many children in North America and beyond in need of loving homes, yet adoption rates in many areas are lagging,” she complained.

There are 114,556 children waiting to be adopted in the U.S., according to the Adoption Network Law Center. More than half a million babies are aborted annually in the U.S. Some states do not require facilities to report how many abortions they commit, so an exact number is unavailable.

There have been 60 million abortions since Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court case legalizing abortion on demand.

In November 2017, NBC printed an article in which a bioethicist argued having many children is immoral like releasing murderers from prison.

Procreation of ignorant people is the problem.

Everybody comes out of the womb utterly ignorant. Some are well educated. Others are brought up wrong and trained to do worse.

Is Mizzzz Piss-check native to Planet Earth? She(?) looks like some drawings I have seen of purported flying saucer pilots.

Because you underscored her Mexican heritage not her US citizenship. That’s rather odd considering Mexican I’d Spanish or even some Indian isn’t a race.

I don’t throw out skin pigmentation to prove I’m not a racist. To the contrary I don’t engage in such name calling

She’s wrong in so many ways that there is little response due beyond “idiot”.

Heh, that’s a good one!

I happened to see the Gaineses’ tv program in a waiting room yesterday afternoon. They seem like cheerful people, and she has very pretty hair.

I can’t be over-impressed by a 5th child, of course.

They probably would not shame a brown couple.

I was at the hospital yesterday and that show was on too. Is that channel a requirement in hospitals and Doctor offices?

They usually show HGTV in the waiting room at the corner emergency clinic, too. Maybe it’s considered inoffensive and relaxing.
