Quotables: A closer look at Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission's toll-jacking
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review ^ | January 7, 2018 | Tribune-Review

Motorists frustrated by the unending cycle of toll increases by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission can take some comfort in a performance audit of the agency announced by state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale. The latest increase, effective Sunday, boosted tolls 6 percent; it's the 10th consecutive increase in as many years. Mr. DePasquale said the audit will examine the Turnpike Commission's assertion that traffic will increase despite increased tolls. It will also look at the turnpike's annual payments to PennDOT and the commission's process for awarding construction contracts. Given the increasing toll on motorists' wallets, a closer look at turnpike operations is in order.

I do research at Penn State at Innovation Park. I did BA and MA there too. I’m looking to move near the borough again or pursue PhD elsewhere (don’t want to do it all at one university). I work with mainly data people and almost everyone in my department are conservatives, actually!

I taught in the Ag Economics Dept. Love the area...

Where else could they put Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley and not realize the alternate meaning?

Of the 15 PhD candidates in Ag Econ, not one was USA born. That was in the 1990’s.

It used to be wise to switch Universities for your PhD. I’m not sure that is true anymore. The real key is finding good faculty in the research area of your choice.
