Motorists frustrated by the unending cycle of toll increases by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission can take some comfort in a performance audit of the agency announced by state Auditor General Eugene DePasquale. The latest increase, effective Sunday, boosted tolls 6 percent; it's the 10th consecutive increase in as many years. Mr. DePasquale said the audit will examine the Turnpike Commission's assertion that traffic will increase despite increased tolls. It will also look at the turnpike's annual payments to PennDOT and the commission's process for awarding construction contracts. Given the increasing toll on motorists' wallets, a closer look at turnpike operations is in order.

I have heard there is and it costs something like $36 one way.
Parents do not pay taxes for their kids. This is so wrong. Everybody pays school taxes to pay back society for their own opportunity of a public education. Todays kids will be paying for their own education in due time. I recall telling a kid who was proud of taking an “AV class” (audio visual back in the day), I asked him if he really wanted to pay taxes for the rest of his life, for the opportunity push a movie projector between classrooms?
Todays students really have to realize that they are the paying for their education, and to make the most of what they are paying for.

I knew that. But Corbett allowed himself to get boxed in by the opposition. He already had several transportation infrastructure projects that had to be funded. IMO tolls on I-80 & I-78 would have been the least “bad option”. Those roads carry the bulk of the truck traffic, and the toll differential for commercial trucks could have carried the weight.
Money is fungible. It really doesn't matter what they say the money is used for.
Is there a toll road between Pittsburg and Philadelphia??
Yes... by way of Harrisburg.
Great place. I have a home there too....

Wow!!!!
I would do what I could to take the back roads!
Just wait until PA legalizes local police use of radar, and you have the stress of watching for cops around every corner looking for revenue nit picking you on your speed. Sure, the bill that passed the state senate has limits of 20% of revenue, and 10 over thresholds, but like the seat belt law, expect those controls to be removed over time.
Soon PA drivers will enjoy the stress of local cops with radar, to go with the the 2nd highest gas tax in the nation, the safety and emissions tests inspection testing, registration tax, high road tolls, and crappy city road systems of PA. Only some 20 states have safety inspections, and California even has a less stringent emissions inspection than PA.
There are several better routes that are no toll.
I love it out there. Scenic 45 route there too. Lewisburg is also where Centre County DA Ray Gricar was last seen.
Yes, his car was found on Water Street by the antique shops. His laptop was thrown off the bridge over the Susquehanna River.
That was pre Penn State fiasco and possibly related.
I drove Rt 45 and/or 192 quite often as I taught at Penn State.
I stay in the warmer South for the cold winters months.
Slick Eddie Rendell wanted to make I80 toll so his buddies could rip off the state even more.
Unfortunately, the only choices are US 30, which is a great but slow 2 lane highway or I-71 and I-68 with an upshot (forget the number to the end of the turnpike. No cost but adds a couple hours.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike? - isn’t that the road that was supposed to be paid off via its tolls decades ago - and then stop charging tolls?.......
oh no....we did exit, not knowing any better, on a supposed "easy pass" exit....which was against their rules apparently...
we never found a good place to eat and ended up at a McDonalds...
BUT the easy pass people in PA sent us a bill for $75 because we exited wrong...even though we tried to pay for our mistake when we got back on the toll road...
its a great big cluster and we shouldn't take it anymore...
but votes have consequences...
its because we're compliant...we're not rich so won't go crazy with lawyers, and we'll actually pay our fines...
the rich will fight it tooth and nail and the poor will just ignore it...
its all about easy targets that will pay...
