House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce will not run for reelection, he announced Monday.
Royce, a Republican from Fullerton who was first elected to Congress in 1992, is chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is known as a hawk and a free trade advocate.
He is the first California Republican to announce a retirement in whats expected to be a tough year for the GOP at the ballot box.
In this final year of my Foreign Affairs Committee chairmanship, I want to focus fully on the urgent threats facing our nation, including: the brutal, corrupt and dangerous regimes in Pyongyang and Tehran, Vladimir Putins continued efforts to weaponize information to fracture western democracies, and growing terrorist threats in Africa and Central Asia, Royce said in a statement Monday.

I figured the dimoKKKRATS would pick up a couple of seats in California. Ed was my Congressman before the realignment.
I think the House is at risk. Too many open seats that have been held by GOP. We need some legislative wins this year.
Hmmmmmm.....
Foreign Affairs.......
He’ll probably leave the state.
“I think the House is at risk. Too many open seats that have been held by GOP. We need some legislative wins this year.”
You/we ain’t gonna get them in CA. CA could quite literally turn into a 95+% Democrat state.
Perhaps, but opening long-held seats...even CA seats....is not a good way to retain control.
Now that they have rigged the primary so that the general is D vs D, it will be 100% D in no time.
Too many held by GOPe.
Maybe we can finally get someone for this district who admits that illegal immigration is a huge problem.
The open seat raises some concern but I think we will still hold on and actually gain in the Senate.
this look like a genuine loss....
the new Californication system of running D versus D....
and no R on the ballot....
is ungood.
there’s almost no representation in the once-golden state anymore
It’s a lost cause. The election of an all Democrat assembly in CA is only matter of an election or two. It’s pretty much the state of affairs right now. There is effectively zero GOP representation in CA.
He might have a scandal brewing. Mike Cernovich tweeted months ago... “ are you going to tell them, or should I.”
This is the 32nd retirement from the House and majority are GOP. We are in deep trouble I think. I know some around here think I am Mr. Doom and Gloom or a bot or traitor or my favorite a troll. But we can only lose 24 seats and that is not a lot at all and that is the reality of it all. I’d like to know what the RNC is doing to ensure that every seat in the country has a challenger. The DNC has a challenger in every seat for the first time ever. We cannot have seats running unopposed next year. Even if one or two flip, that could make a difference.
Can’t discount the possibility but I like don’t rat chances to take the House, they would need to take Trump seats not just ones like this.
And while I had opined this one would be at risk when it opened up, I’m not writing it off.
I’m pretty sure poltiics1.com just retweeted a fake Stuart Rotherberg tweet saying simply “takeover”. This unverifed account appears to be from a dem shill. https://twitter.com/StuPolitics?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.politics1.com%2F
Yeah, that Tweet has got to be from a different Stu Rothenberg. Inside Elections (formerly the Rothenberg Report) rates the race a toss-up:
There’s a boatload of Democrats running for the CA-39. Let’s see if we can run just two Republicans and maybe they’ll finish 1-2 in the blanket primary and we’ll be guaranteed the seat in November. Had a third GOP candidate not run and gotten 7% in CA-31 in 2014 we would have finished 1-2 in the district (and held the seat) for the second cycle in a row despite GOP candidates getting below 50% combined,
It’s either him or a straight up fake account, not someone of the same name. It’s got his picture and a link to inside elections. It lacks the verification checkmark for famous people. There is also an inside elections twitter account (also unverified) that links to this one and to an account for Nathan Gonzales (unverified) and posts things from the site so maybe it is real.
If it is him my opinion of him is lowered, the tweets are vapid pro-rat garbage and he must have been overruled on the race ranking.
Anyway yes, we need to run 2 Republicans, certainly no more.
Royce has endorsed a former aide, former state assemblywoman Young Kim. https://www.youngkimforcongress.com
