Devin Nunes, targeting Mueller and the FBI, alarms Democrats and some Republicans with his tactics
Washington Post ^ | 12/31/2017 | Karoun Demirjian

Rep. Devin Nunes, once sidelined by an ethics inquiry from leading the House Intelligence Committee’s Russia probe, is reasserting the full authority of his position as chairman just as the GOP appears poised to challenge special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s investigation of possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

The California Republican was cleared in December of allegations he improperly disclosed classified information while accusing the Obama administration of exposing the identities of Trump affiliates on surveillance reports. Since clearing his name, Nunes has stepped up his attacks on Mueller’s team and the law enforcement agencies around it, including convening a group of Intelligence Committee Republicans to draft a likely report on “corruption” among the investigators working for the special counsel.

Though Nunes has not officially wrested his panel’s Russia probe back from the Republicans he deputized to run it, the chairman’s reemergence as a combative Trump loyalist has raised alarm among Democrats that the future of the investigation may be clipped short or otherwise undermined. Even some of Nunes’s GOP allies have expressed concern about his tactics, prompting rare public warnings that he should temper his attacks on federal law enforcement.

“I’m interested in getting access to the information and not the drama,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said earlier this month, when Nunes began threatening contempt citations for FBI Director Christopher A. Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein in the wake of revelations former Mueller team members had exchanged anti-Trump texts.

More recently, Gowdy said that his “heart would be broken” if Nunes follows through on reported plans to issue a corruption exposé about the FBI, citing concerns that issuing such a report outside the context of a comprehensive investigation of the Justice Department could prove damaging to law enforcement.

[Gowdy said that his “heart would be broken” if Nunes follows through on reported plans to issue a corruption exposé about the FBI]

Gowdy has been nothing but the designated sandbagger for the establishment.

Sorry, Trey. When DoJ is engaged is systematic obstruction of justice by refusing to submit documents under lawful subpoena, a behavior they would not tolerate from a target of theirs, DoJ is behaving criminally. It deserves the treatment meted out to accused criminals.

Okay, this is disturbing coming from Gowdy, and an effeminate use of words portraying moony feelings, unbecoming of a serious eye on corruption.

Wonder if the Marxist attached WAPO cheerfully engaged in hitting these high points just to jerk our chain and to encourage the Left?

Alarms the Rats!!! We Americans are alarmed at the Rats, since the Rats have committed all the white collar crimes and guess what, so far, they have gotten away with murder.

This investigation is going to end up costing the American public a fortune.

It seems like nobody cares how much wasted $$$ goes into this investigation, which should have never been granted by the Rat Rosenstein to investigate nothing.

There is nothing to investigate since there were no collusion in the 2016 elections and President Trump beat the tar out of Miss Hillary. Yet we are spending millions upon millions of dollars on collusion charges for nothing.

The Washington Compost (A bunch of "Giant Sixth Grade Journalists") wrote this article and they are hiding all the pertinent crimes committed by the Rats. How convenient!

Gowdy is just now realizing that Nunes just might show everyone what a real pit bull investigator in the House is capable of.

Unfortunately Gowdy is now in charge of the House Oversight committee, so he does have some official ability to try to reign Nunes in, and he is warning Nunes through the press now.

Bottom line it doesn't appear they are working for the same team.

Partner, you got that right!!!

I will never trust Gowdy for anything ever again since he is responsible for getting that sorry Paul Ryno as Speaker of the People's House.

Gowdy is clearly controlled opposition.

Partner, I agree and hear I thought that he was o.k.

He announced that he was only going to run for 3 terms and I guess that is out the window since he is on the "Gravy Train" as a congressman.

I always considered TG as powerless. I know view him as an enemy of the American people who is part of the swamp.

Look at the guy to Gowdy's left.

Are the Democrats, WaPo and "some Republicans" EVER concerned with his tactics?

"controlled opposition"

I've never heard this phrase before (though I've heard the concept).

It describes the whole Democratic S.O.P. since FDR. How else did we end up with Romney and McCain?

Just try to imagine if the majority of elected Republicans were actually loyal to the people who elected them. I know it’s a remote concept, but just try to imagine what it would be like. I’m trying but not having much luck.

Gowdy is a pressure relief valve. Lots of sound and fury, signifying nothing but the arrival of another YouTube video where you can “WATCH TREY GOWDY DESTROY (INSERT CRIMINAL LIBTARD HERE)!!!”.

I don’t know if he came to the swamp pre-corrupted or if they turned him, but he’s worse than an open enemy now.

As they say at the Conservative Treehouse, he’s strictly a Decepticon, chaff and countermeasures for when the crooks get exposed. Gowdy crows and struts befitting his roosterhead look, and the Lois Lerners of the swamp retire free as an actual bird.

I’m one of the rubes he fooled. I sent Trey Gowdy a heartfelt email thanking him for what he was going to do about the Benghazi fiasco, and instead he became part of the cover up.

The next time I click on a Trey Gowdy vid on YouTube, it’ll be titled “WATCH AS TREY GOWDY DESTROYS JUDGE WHO DENIES HIS APPEAL FOR CLINTON CRIME CONSPIRACY CONVICTION”.

Until then, he can take his rooster haircut and phony folksy outrage show and shove ‘em.

In Gowdy’s defense, he is a former prosecutor who is well aware of the serious threats a legislative body can have on a law enforcement agency like the FBI. He’s warning Nunes to tread carefully here to avoid undermining legitimate DOJ investigations.
