...and that makes it all ok when Wichita police and SWAT show up, knock on your door and MURDER the very first person they see in the house. THEN try to calm things down and figure out WTF actually happened.

Good Job Wichita PD! Another unarmed intentional murder from LEO on the unarmed public. YES, HE WAS NOT ARMED. One lethal round to the chest of the innocent man without provocation, then try to ascertain if there actual is a crime being committed.

The guy in Wichita got what the guy in California deserves.

“YES, HE WAS NOT ARMED. “

Which was discovered after the shooting, of course, so an essentially meaningless fact. If he had been armed in his own house, that’s no reason to shoot him.
The problem was that there was no real probable cause. They could have called the house and figured this one out.

Absolutely this was murder. The poor guy was shot, the police say, because he reached for his waistband. And I doubt that even that is true. The guy probably just moved his hand randomly. We all do that when we walk, or even when we stand still.

An innocent black is right to fear the police. Hell, I’m an older white guy, and I fear the police.

I wish I could remember who it was, but another FReeper here said it perfectly: The police used to have a job, to make us feel safe. Now it’s our job to make the police feel safe.

The guy that made the call needs to go away for a long time.

The officer who shot a man with no provocation needs to go away for a long time.

Both are at fault. Both need to suffer the consequences.

IIRC, another thread on FR I read yesterday said the man reached for his waistband or for something in his waistband.

But I don't think that is "provocation" enough to kill the guy. He could have just been hitching his pants up or scratching his belly. Or reaching for a weapon. Problem is, police don't know which it is.

Police operation tactics will have to be tweaked to prevent this outright killing of an innocent citizen again.

In the meantime, throw the frickin' book and kitchen sink at this guy they arrested. Send a message.

Prayers for the family. May the poor deceased gentleman Rest In Peace.

"YES, HE WAS NOT ARMED. "

He should have armed himself.
