Los Angeles police have arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of making the swatting call that ended with a Wichita man being killed by police.
Tyler Barriss was arrested Friday afternoon, according to KABC.
Booking records for the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Office say he was arrested at 3:15 p.m. for a felony.
Barriss is accused of reporting a fake homicide and hostage situation to the Wichita Police Department just after 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
The practice is called "swatting" and happens when someone makes a call to a police department with a false story of an ongoing crime often with killing or hostages involved in an attempt to draw a large number of police officers to a particular address.

The swatting calls are made through the Internet and can look like they originate from anywhere.
It’s why this is so dangerous.
I've never been a cop hater, nor am I indifferent to the difficulties and danger they sometimes face...but like you said, nowadays they seem menacing to me, and I've never been in trouble with the law (I'm 66). I want cops to go home safely too, but given the nature of their work, and how they relate to the public It must be understood that the places where police are perfectly safe are called police states. This, on the heels of the Daniel Shaver incident is disgraceful.
"The male then turned towards the officers on the east side of the residence, lowered his hands to the waistband again, then suddenly pulled them back up towards those officers at the east," he said. "The officers on the north side of the street feared the male pulled a weapon from his waistband, retrieved a gun and was in the process of pointing it at the officers to the east. Fearing for those officers safety, the officer on the north side fired one round."
Taken at face value it would be a justified shoot. When in such a situation, you must freeze. But I wonder if there is audio that would show conflicting commands were being shouted at the victim, and in trying to follow all of the directions, the victim ensured his demise. I would think SOP should have one and only one officer giving directions.
Change the punk with Murder 1.
You fail to see the big picture here. The officer was able to go home after his shift. It’s all about officer safety you know like in Minneapolis!
Waiting for news of arrest and charges against the cop who actually committed the murder ...
Why hire a hit man when you can just call the cops?
By the time Officer Friendly gets to your car, all interior lights on, keys on the dash, license, registration and insurance cards clearly visible, hands at 10 and 2 on the wheel, window down, puzzled look on your face...
Move slowly only when told. No sudden moves!
"...you still have a landline?..."
> It must be understood that the places where police are perfectly safe are called police states. <
Well said. And as you noted, society must do its best to keep both the police AND innocent citizens as safe as possible. But now it seems like we are way out of balance.
And this makes it legal for the police to murder you.
Not knowing whether or not you may or may not have a weapon that you may be going for or maybe just straightening out your shirt because you were just setting down when the JackBoots knocked on the door.
Ooops, stupid cop jacked on adrenalin, gets to put a few rounds in you cause he is afraid for his life, because without the presence of any weapons or any indication that there was an actual emergency at your house, he feared for his life and positively has to go home to his family tonight.
Sounds yugly sarcastic and over the top hyperbole, doesn't it.
This kinda craziness could/would never happen. Except today it happened to you, while you were standing in your front room, wondering why all the cops and commotion outside. Didnt even get to say I love you , to your kids. or mom who just watched you get shot and killed because some pussy/loose cannon 7 year veteran of the force cop gets away with your murder because all the correct buzzwords of legality were used to justify killing you on the spot.
Ah. Business.
Unless you have “Yuge tracks of land”, in that case a small jiggle is appreciated.
Lol....so I should hear about it on the news when a cop refrains from shooting unarmed civilians? Theyre so awesome that its an act of mercy they show us by not shooting us all that its newsworthy? Oh....thats rich.
> When in such a situation, you must freeze. <
Yes, absolutely. But I must apply the “average person” argument here. Would I expect the average person to instantly freeze when confronted by the police?
I would not. That average person is not trained for such situations. He would probably be confused and frightened. It would not be reasonable to expect him to instantly freeze.
Looks like he does drop his hands but that's BS anyhow.
Looks like all of the cops are across the street, at least 30 yds, no doubt behind cover.
Too many cops have the "Us vs Them" mentality.
Bingo and DITTO. My best friend of 30 years is a LEO of 20 years here near Houston. He and I met in the military and he became a cop after he retired. He hates it. He freely admits that the SWAT types are OUT of control and that way too many of the bubbas (as he calls them) on the force no longer care about protecting and serving but instead are a bunch of power hungry jerks. Most have no military background but instead want to act like they are in the military. This is the opinion of a cop.
“I want to see the body cam footage before I believe the reached for his wasitband line.”
Yes another anti cop Freeper - guilty until proven innocent.
