"The police used to have a job, to make us feel safe. Now it’s our job to make the police feel safe."

I've never been a cop hater, nor am I indifferent to the difficulties and danger they sometimes face...but like you said, nowadays they seem menacing to me, and I've never been in trouble with the law (I'm 66). I want cops to go home safely too, but given the nature of their work, and how they relate to the public It must be understood that the places where police are perfectly safe are called police states. This, on the heels of the Daniel Shaver incident is disgraceful.

Well said. And as you noted, society must do its best to keep both the police AND innocent citizens as safe as possible. But now it seems like we are way out of balance.

Bingo and DITTO. My best friend of 30 years is a LEO of 20 years here near Houston. He and I met in the military and he became a cop after he retired. He hates it. He freely admits that the SWAT types are OUT of control and that way too many of the “bubbas” (as he calls them) on the force no longer care about protecting and serving but instead are a bunch of power hungry jerks. Most have no military background but instead want to act like they are in the military. This is the opinion of a cop.
