They stand like surreal monuments in the California scrubland: prototypes of Donald Trump's proposed "big, beautiful" border wall between the US and Mexico.
The eight 30ft high slabs are the first tangible part of the controversial project that the US President says will help solve America's immigration problems.

Thanks jdsteel.
Its been a year already, and nothing. Except a few prototypes. The wall either needs to be built or he will not be reelected. I also think if it hasnt started by the midterms, the Republicans are toast. We have been lied to enough.
I blame Congress for not funding it.
How cool is that!
I see, so you’re suggesting thousands of illegals crossing vast expanses of deserts are going to be taking their Honda generators and can of gas with them on the trek? So they’ll be packing power tools, generators, gasoline...
Right pal.
Backed up by manpower, sensors, and a double fence no man’s land is going to defeat +95% to 99% of the people trying to get past the border.
Perhaps to deter graffiti vandals the wall should be electrified.
The wall will stand as a beacon of hope to all who believe in free nation states and the concept of national sovereignty.
IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WONT COME :)
Great idea, Gnu!
No. 7....see through....rounded top....
I can see drones chasing their little as*** back to whence they came.
Lots of other reasons as well!
You said exactly what I was about to say. I like the rounded top because it would make it much more difficult to grasp with anything, but the see-through slats at the bottom negate that for the very reason you mentioned. I would make the wall solid from top to bottom, with the rounded top, and then use technology of one form or another to keep tabs on what is happening on the other side. If the military can detect an approaching UFO buff heading towards Area 51 using buried sensors, etc., then this shouldnt be that difficult.
Needs more razor wire.
Ive always favored the minefield idea because the first person who attempts to traverse it and fails serves as an invaluable lesson to the others.
Cool thing about that, would be the destruction of federal property. So it would be more than a civil violation that most of the these invaders get.
Why no glass schards or barbed wire?
Full speed ahead!
Yup it is Congress. However to state that its some magnificent marvel requiring prototype after prototype and complexity this and that is hogwash. Its a damn wall that should take no less than 3 months from conception to start laying down
