They stand like surreal monuments in the California scrubland: prototypes of Donald Trump's proposed "big, beautiful" border wall between the US and Mexico.

The eight 30ft high slabs are the first tangible part of the controversial project that the US President says will help solve America's immigration problems.

It’s been a year already, and nothing. Except a few prototypes. The wall either needs to be built or he will not be reelected. I also think if it hasn’t started by the midterms, the Republicans are toast. We have been lied to enough.

I blame Congress for not funding it.

I see, so you’re suggesting thousands of illegals crossing vast expanses of deserts are going to be taking their Honda generators and can of gas with them on the trek? So they’ll be packing power tools, generators, gasoline...

Right pal.

Backed up by manpower, sensors, and a double fence no man’s land is going to defeat +95% to 99% of the people trying to get past the border.

Perhaps to deter graffiti vandals the wall should be electrified.

Leeeme ask ya, do these people look like they have ready access to heavy duty power tools, generators, gasoline etc? How long ya think they'd last packing all that stuff across boiling deserts?

The wall will stand as a beacon of hope to all who believe in free nation states and the concept of national sovereignty.

IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WONT COME :)

The object of the double walls is a clear path...Appears to be quite wide in photos...

I can see drones chasing their little as*** back to whence they came.

”The ones with the see-thru bottoms are failures. Launch a weighted rope over the top and down the other side. Tie it around the see-thru support and you can scale over the wall easily. The ones with a flat top fail also as a grappling hook can attach to them. The ones with the rounded top and solid walls are best to prevent easy scaling”

You said exactly what I was about to say. I like the rounded top because it would make it much more difficult to grasp with anything, but the see-through slats at the bottom negate that for the very reason you mentioned. I would make the wall solid from top to bottom, with the rounded top, and then use technology of one form or another to keep tabs on what is happening on the other side. If the military can detect an approaching UFO buff heading towards Area 51 using buried sensors, etc., then this shouldn’t be that difficult.

I’ve always favored the minefield idea because the first person who attempts to traverse it and fails serves as an invaluable lesson to the others.

Cool thing about that, would be the destruction of federal property. So it would be more than a civil violation that most of the these invaders get.

Yup it is Congress. However to state that it’s some magnificent marvel requiring prototype after prototype and complexity this and that is hogwash. It’s a damn wall that should take no less than 3 months from conception to start laying down
