Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who was accused by a United Airlines passenger of bumping her from a first-class seat, said in a Twitter screed on Tuesday that she believes the incident is all about race.
“Since this was not any fault of mine, the way the individual continued to act appeared to be, upon reflection, because I was an African American woman, seemingly an easy target along with the African American flight attendant who was very, very nice,” the Texas Democrat wrote in a post. “This saddens me, especially at this time of year given all of the things we have to work on to help people.”
“But in the spirit of this season and out of the sincerity of my heart, if it is perceived that I had anything to do with this, I am kind enough to simply say sorry,” Jackson Lee continued. “But as an African American, I know there are too many examples like this all over the nation.”
Jean-Marie Simon, 63, said she was tossed out of her first-class seat on a Houston-to-Washington, DC, flight Dec. 18 to make way for Jackson Lee.

Yeah a congresswoman flying first class is such a victim. Boo hoo. So the two blacks were racist and now are crying racism. What a surprise.
Could you imagine if she had been bumped from 1st class by a white person?
SJL shows up and is treated the same as they always treat her and other politicians. There is only one seat available but then... a cancellation appears on the passenger list and they escort SJL and company to their seats.
Meanwhile, this teacher from Washington, DC finally makes it to that airport and now wants the airline to give her back her seat that she had cancelled.
Sure, SJL is a corrupt and racist politician, but I think this is a setup to distract people. We expect her to be at fault, so we believe it.
I don't think the facts support it.
Accepting free upgrades to 1st class sounds a lot like bribery/getting free income based upon your position in congress. If this income went unreported, it is illegal and the congresswoman is most definitely at fault.
I assume that the taxpayer only pays the coach price for her ticket. If she wants 1st class she has to pay the additional money herself.
It is simple enough for me. 50,000 lawsuit and discovery.

A-ha. I read in another source. United said she cancelled AFTER she got her boarding pass. The flight was already considerably delayed.
It seems really odd to cancel after you’ve already received a boarding pass.
One scenario I can imagine: Customer kept being informed the plane was delayed, perhaps even with a wait time that wasn’t being updated. She cancels her flight and then, VIOLA! The plane is there! So now she wants on after all.
OR: She tries to book another flight, and between cancelling the one flight and finalizing the purchase, the plane shows up. Now, to her, she hasn’t finalized the purchase but to United, she already cancelled her flight.
In either scenario, United is being disingenuous saying she cancelled her flight. She’s in the airport with a boarding pass. If there’s something screwy about a cancellation, that’s almost certainly because they’re late with the plane. Someone there should know all that. Trying to put a Congresswoman on a loaded plane just because the plane hasn’t taken off is just sucky.
That said, it’s not the CONGRESSWOMAN’S fault how United bumped her; she doesn’t know any of this. But her response, “she’s only mad she got bumped because it was a black person who bumped her” is totally her fault.

I do not blame the woman Congress Critter or not.
This is all United.
The fact that that this bitch calls it racist is enough.
