A woman was killed and her husband seriously injured after a vicious mauling by two pit bulls on Christmas Eve in a Kentucky coal town. Investigators said the husband managed to shoot the dogs afterwards, killing one of them...a caller had reported his brother and sister-in-law were attacked by two of their neighbors dogs, WLEX-TV reported.

...yapper!
We never heard of “pit bulls” until about the time Messicans began to break the border. Before then, the only dog Americans needed to be concerned about was the Rottie.
How did the neighbors' dogs get over to the victim to maul her? Did they escape out the door when someone opened it, did their leap their backyard fence or did the neighbor sic them on the woman?
Not seem to be...honest to God they seriously are. Pits are even involved in 5 or 6 X more fatal attacks than Rotweillers. It comes from being bred for dogfighting. The owners may be ultimately at fault but it is too often innocent victims that pay the price.
Because Pit Bulls are strong enough to kill you. Most other breeds are not. An enraged Black Lab can hurt you, and may do serious damage, but they can't kill an average adult. Albeit, they don't have the disposition to want to try. A Pit Bull seems to want to try. It happens too often for it to be anything else.
“Sad to say, its not really the breed of dog, rather the breed of owner that is most at fault for these tragedies.”
EXACTLY! I’ve had a few pits over my lifetime, and I have one now (yes, a rescue). He is sweet and is very affectionate with people.
It’s funny, but none of my dogs ever bit anyone. I’ve been bitten by dogs, though, and not a one was a pit, no matter whose it was. Granted, I don’t know any gangbangers and I will have nothing to do with anyone who mistreats an animal, so I guess that minimizes my risk of being bitten. The dogs that did bite me were usually little 10 to 20 pound “designer” dogs. Mutts are the best dogs.
Too many incidents of shelters picking up strays, monitoring them for a time, then adopting them out. Big money in recycling thug dogs.
The shelters are raining pitbull/mixes because those are the ones either rejected by their owners (for good reason), or they are wandering loose (IOW there’s an irresponible owner somewhere).
And while a lot of people lie or are oblivious to their dog’s aggressive tendencies, I truly believe that many also are speaking the truth, that their dog never showed any aggression whatsoever, sweet as pie. Until it mauled their toddler to death.
No thanks.
Wow, yet another mere coincidence
What has been posted by “many Freepers” is demonstrably false.
Certain breeds, of which pit pulls top the list exhibit certain breed specific tendencies among which are aggressiveness and high fear thresholds.
Under IDEAL circumstances they can be for the most part trained to control those inherent tendencies.
Most are not trained however by a professional and are NOT managed under “ideal circumstances. This amounts to a loaded gun with a hair trigger being wielded by someone who has virtually no firearms training.
If you can post this type of thread EVERYDAY, then there just might be teensy problem, neh?
+1
Why is this breed of killer dog permitted in America? How many need to die? Ban The Pit Bulls.
Photo caption indicates its a file photo.
Yep. Genetically defective breed. Genetically defective owner.
There are characteristics that pit bulls display when they attack that differ from all other dog breeds. One of these characteristics was their lethal bite. They’re the only breed that grabs & shakes without opening the jaw, which is why owners are advised to carry a break stick to facilitate the release of its grip on another dog. The Colorado Supreme Court even cited these differences when they upheld the Denver pit bull ban in 2005:
[pit bulls] inflict more serious wounds than other breeds. They tend to attack the deep muscles, to hold on, to shake, and to cause ripping of tissues. Pit bull attacks were compared to shark attacks.11
Eradicate the dogs of peace.

My family had a dachshund when I was growing up. I thought my parents didn’t train it very well. Then I got one myself as an adult, and it was very hard to train. One day I watching a TV show about service dogs, and the narrator said something like, “the training for service dogs takes advantage of a dog’s natural desire to please its owner.” I almost fell out of my chair. It clicked with me that I’d see owners were their Rottweilers and German Shepherds, and those dogs do what they’re told to right away. Dachshunds have a mind of their own and think they’re at least equal to you, they’re very barky, they have some issues. Wonderful dogs in other ways, very, very smart and funny, but still, they’re challenging. And every owner I’ve ever met says just about the exact same things about them. It’s like they’re all clones.
And being another pure bred, pit bulls are what they are, natural killers. I’m not quite sure if banning them now is the answer, though. Maybe that only makes them go up in value, and in cost, and more attractive to criminals. Maybe for a start somehow modifying them, even through some cross-breeding? Perhaps an breeder who does so gets a tax break?
Saw this lady not too long ago, walking two pit bulls down the street each with it’s own leash. Across the street was another person walking their dog. The pits nearly drug this idiot woman off the sidewalk and into the street as they were attempting to get at the person and the dog across the street.
In my honest opinion, people like this should be locked up for gross stupidity. No joke.
