Will robots one day destroy us? Its a question that increasingly preoccupies many of our most brilliant scientists and tech entrepreneurs. ...
...This year, a leading Oxford academic, Professor Michael Wooldridge, warned MPs that AI could go rogue, that machines might become so complex that the engineers who create them will no longer understand them or be able to predict how they function.
...The same sort of computer mind that can conjure up new chess moves might easily decide that the most efficient way to streamline the health service would be to get rid of the vulnerable and needy.
...And the programs can develop distinctly worrying ideas. A system developed in America for probation services to predict the risk of parole-seekers reoffending was recently discovered to have quickly become unfairly racially biased.

Built by a human, or did it spontaneously arise like the Phoenix?
...Hey Claire! Butlerian Jihad...is it time yet?
Merry Christmas

I think you have summarized it perfectly.
New moves like advancing a pawn three squares or allowing a rook to drift one square sideways when moving forward? Or is the computer just very good at making the old moves?
Pogo said it first.....
The Lord will not be mocked by Man.
Th further and further the heathens push with this ‘AI’ the closer we come to judgement
Smart machine.................

So AI, based on nothing but math and associated algorithms, The epitome of cold, inhuman (and one must be human to be racist) logic, is racist because it deduces that certain racial groups are more likely to be repeat offenders. Interesting.

Well, that’s easy to see: Racist white men imputing *invalid* and *skewed* data...
I’d bet they’d reduce the ‘3 laws of robotics’ to “Protect whitey at all costs” /s
Define 'unfairly' as used in this context?
I hade a family member who owned a store in a predominantly white suburb. Although 90% of her customers were white, nearly 90% of her shoplifting problem was from blacks.
She had to stop taking checks from everyone, because every time a black person wrote her a check- it bounced. Every. Single. Time.
She could not put up a sign saying "No checks from blacks" so she had to stop taking checks from everyone, which did cut down on her business, since a good part was done by check.
If you look at statistics, 45% person of ALL crime is done by 3% of the population- (young black males).
If citing factual statistics is racist, then I guess I am a racist.
And that is just the crime that is CAUGHT. She caught so many people (women too) shoplifting and they got offended if you didn't let them get away with it.
I am so sick of politically correct HORSE$H!T
They could kill all of us... and the decision might come quickly - like in ‘four hours’ after the ‘problem’ is considered.
racially unfair? Or just accurate?
BTW: Your analysis isn’t accurate though. With AI it learns and can be “taught” to be racist. Look at the Microsoft bots that once interacting with humans it became a Hitler loving racist Nazi.
Something being racially based and being racially biased are two different things.
[[Yeah, but did the robot enjoy winning?]]
It enjoyed it so much it crapped ones and zeros
It probably played 100 billion billion games against itself, starting by making random moves within the parameters of the game and sorting out bad moves from good moves. After a while, it just makes good moves. That’s how this stuff works.
The problem I have is that someday soon some dork will declare that it is “immoral” to shut off an AI computer, or to even equip it with an on/off switch. That’s when we are going to get into trouble.

Not at all. Humans have nothing to fear from robots. Robots exist only to help people. They are both friendly and subservient.
P.S. My personal robot suggested (demanded, actually) that I post the above message. And I know better than to cross him.
