Now that we have a Republican President, the Media just rediscovered Homeless People. It’s a miracle I tell ya.

With articles about the epidemic of homelessness, I expect to see Herr Goebbels’ image each time! You’re slacking!

More than one-quarter of the total homeless population nationwide lives in California...

25% of the nation's homeless live in a state that contains +/-10% of the total population of the country.

I wonder how many of these folks are third worlders or people displaced by them.

A classic proof of the maxim that whatever you subsidize you get more of, and whatever you tax you get less of. California subsidizes homelessness via generous welfare programs, sanctuary policies, etc. and as a result they have a bumper crop of street bums.

I suspect in the near future, the Kali progressive elites will create “work and lifestyle training camps” in the desert for all of these unfortunates. Maybe an entire archipelago of them.

Even the homeless respond to incentives. The weather is nice - none of the cold spells we get in the Mountain States and Midwest. And, Cali has the best government giveaways in the country.

Ah ha! A Republican president.

Time to roll out the ole' reliable, "GOP policies increases homelessness in America" storyline.

I guarantee you, in no time, now that the tax bill is passed, we'll start hearing some democRATS and liberal analysts weave the increase-in-homeless issue into their talking points about how evil Trump is. He has no compassion. I can hear it now.

Never fails. They only have so many tools in the liberal bucket they can use.

I'm a little surprised at how few homeless people we actually have in this country. 544,000 out of about 325,000,000. That's only about 0.17% of the total population. I would have guessed it was higher than that.

“There’s a tale of different countries here: We’re seeing a real significant increase and much of the rest of the country is not. We’re all doing the same things, but here the rent is too damn high.

Love how this article spins it. We are not all doing the same thing. They want to be a sanctuary state and this is what they get-a third world country.

A friend of ours was talking to his nephew in Colorado who is a car insurance salesman. He said they are seeing 10,000 people a month leave California for Colorado alone. His insurance company is losing money trying to insure all these people moving into Colorado. No reporting on this.

Give another year or two and California will be like South America.

I would like to know 2 numbers: the number of homeless in January 2009, and the number in January 2017....

NIMBY leftists, combined with protection of illegal aliens, combined with outrageous leftist government = Lots of homeless.
Kalifornia is reapin what they have sewn.
My family is planning a trip in the West this year. Already told the Mrs. that we will NOT set foot in that state.

need strict laws and enforcement. No crapping, sleeping, living, on the street.

No cooking in control areas (see recent fires)

Shopping cart stealing is a crime.

Bock sidewalk crime.

Camping on public grounds without permit crime

I support mental health clinics. Many homeless don’t take their meds and are unsafe on the street and nuisance to the rest of us. Yelling late at night, stripping in the middle of intersections etc. i have seen this.

The able bodied must work for welfare. i support short term housing. Then you work and pay rent for a train car or mimi apt.

Make be benign dictator and give me the laws I want and in 3 years the problem will be solved.

Over 2/3 of homeless are mentally ill, addicts/alcoholics or both or all the above.

But in days of olde, when common sense prevailed, these types were not “mainstreamed” into the lives and neighborhoods where ordinary citizens worked, lived and played.

Somewhere judges decided these folks deserved to be free, free, free. Roam as they will, use drugs, urinate and defecate in public, sleep in parks, beaches etc.

Bleeding heart know-nothings bemoan their plight. They think not enough is done for them.

Guess what? Plenty is done for them. California is the drug-alcohol treatment and recovery paradise of the entire world.

If you want to sober up, straighten up, live normally this is the place where the resources are available in abundance.

But these folks don’t want to live indoors, follow rules, quit using drugs and alcohol. Why should they, when nothing meaningful moves or compels them to do so.

Most of them have used up any sympathy from their own families, run the rounds of treatment, and still no changes, no recovery, no sobriety.

A recent survey for a major SoCal newspaper surveyed over 1,000 homeless living on the Santa Ana River near Anaheim Stadium. Of 1,000 surveyed, only 100 said they wanted resources for treatment/recovery.

The fact is they sleep outdoors, because they don’t want structured lives, with rules like curfew or substance testing.

So when somebody tries to lay a guilt trip on you, think twice.

In summary, law enforcement and prisons/jails use to house many of them. But voter iniatives have made drugs legal of misdemeanors, have let people out early from jail, and decided law abiding, hard working people had to accept these losers into their parks, neighborhoods, streets, beaches etc.

Blame your fellow voters, and liberal judges. Cops will agree that something should be done, but will claim they cannot do much.
