China must be ready for a war on the Korean peninsula, with the risk of conflict higher than ever before, Chinese government advisers and a retired senior military officer warned on Saturday.
Beijing, once seen as Pyongyangs key ally with sway over its neighbour, was losing control of the situation, they warned. Conditions on the peninsula now make for the biggest risk of a war in decades, said Renmin University international relations professor Shi Yinhong, who also advises the State Council, Chinas cabinet. North Korea says nuclear war inevitable because of military drills by US and South Korea
Shi said US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un were locked in a vicious cycle of threats and it was already too late for China to avert it. At best, Beijing could stall a full-blown conflict. North Korea is a time bomb. We can only delay the explosion, hoping that by delaying it, a time will come to remove the detonator, Shi said on the sidelines of a Beijing conference on the crisis.
Addressing the conference, Wang Hongguang, former deputy commander of the Nanjing Military Region, warned that war could break out on the Korean peninsula at any time from now on until March when South Korea and the United States held annual military drills. It is a highly dangerous period, Wang said. Northeast China should mobilise defences for war.

With us or the Norks? Sorks?
The Norks. Even their benefactors are getting fed up with the belligerent crap. Plus, they are getting a taste of what the GCC is doing under the radar.
pluz - its just the NeoCons braying for war like they always do.
China has begun to appreciate that a war in Korea would not be good for business. China/US trade was non-existent during the Korean War. I rather doubt China believes there can be a war in Korea that would not drastically affect China/US trade.
Red China occupying North Korea sounds like a bad thing for South Korea.
I have read reports that china has been building refugee camps along its border with the Norks. I can think of no better confirmation that they believe either war and/or collapse of the regime is inevitable. One has to believe that a Chinese refugee camp will have the feel of a luxury Disney resort compared to what the typical Nork is accustomed to.
So the neocons have moved to China and become military advisors?
dear chinas....where would the north korea problem be today had you minded your own business back during the war and not fought for them...without you there would be no north korea. you made the mess, enjoy it
its a faux story - typical embellished NeoCon misinformation mm
Bull.
Probably right, you are. It took a lot to get a Chinese paper to print that, even Panda Face is in on the joke ...
“Bull”
Yes. So says the Chinese who gave the missile, launcher, and warhead info to the Norks.
South Korea, too, millions of Nork refugees pouring over the border.
Now, now, Fat Boy is just a kid playing with his tinker toys.
Maybe, but that would be far more risky than fleeing to China. Most of the Nork population is in the north and most of the DMZ is heavily mined/
I wonder how the tides would work for people fleeing into makeshift boats.
It wasn't West Germany that was destabilized by Ossis heading west. South Korea is willing to accept every single NK refugee. It has petitioned China to let North Koreans in China move to the South. China has refused, because the mass movement of North Koreans to South Korea would have the same effect on North Korea as the end of the Berlin Wall had on the Warsaw Pact countries - the collapse of the Kim dynasty and NK's communist government. Since the outright annexation of North Korea by China would trigger a war with the South, the Chinese are doing the next best thing - keeping their vassal Kim economically afloat by sending him aid, and demographically afloat by not allowing North Korean refugees to move to South Korea.
