Democratic Lawmaker: Women Who Wear Revealing Clothing Invite Sexual Harassment
Breitbart ^ | 12-16-2017 | Adelle Nazarian

A female Democratic lawmaker on Wednesday reportedly said women who wear revealing clothing often create an “invitation” to sexual harassment. “I saw a member yesterday with her cleavage so deep it was down to the floor,” Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), 71, told fellow Democrats during a caucus private meeting meant to discuss sexual harassment issues, according to Politico. “And what I’ve seen … it’s really an invitation.”

Politico’s unnamed sources said, “the comments left many others in the room stunned.”

“Maybe I’ll get booed for saying this, but many companies and the military [have] a dress code,” Kaptur reportedly said. “I have been appalled at some of the dress of … members and staff. Men have to wear ties and suits.”

She's talking about women wearing revealing clothing in the workplace. So here's my take from the trenches: Back in the 90s we (men) were told that we could never ever ever comment on a woman's appearance. No matter what. So as they pushed the boundaries of appropriate proffessional attire, everybody was afraid to say. So yes, some women have gone way too far.

In a consequence of the law of unitended consequences I suspect some women actually desire and enjoy positive feedback and may have pushed the limits because the climate forbid people from giving it. I remember one woman I worked with got breast implants and she showed up in everything short of topless for a while to show off the goods. I never said a word and tried hard to aver my gaze but I think she wanted a compliment on her new figure. She never got one. But the point is that the draconian rules that prevent even benign compliments may be feeding a trend in some women to wear more attention getting outfits.

Bottom line: I disagree that women are giving an invitation by dressing inappropriately BUT I do agree that some women do dress inappropriately for the office.

If you dress like a hooker you might be treated like one, however; any woman wearing a low cut dress in a business office environment is seeking/asking for attention. We always had dress codes. Congress should. Woman who wear thigh high skirts/dresses and/or low cut outfits still do not deserve physical touch of any kind. I have always preferred ladies to trashy looking women.

Excellent response.

I have a lot of comments but chose to let them be just historical.

I hope I can remember your comment when confronting those I love with this truth.

I went to the firm that my husband works for Christmas party last week, all the women had their boobs hanging out. Not just the young women either and certainly not the good looking ones. It was bizarre. So inappropriate.

Good example.

This topic has generated a fair amount of discussion in my household. This morning, I pointed out to my husband that a good guideline might be for a man to ask whether he would say or do (whatever) to a same-sex coworker.

For example, I will say, “You look really sharp today!” to a male friend, and I’ll say, “You look great today!” to a female friend, in recognition that the person has made an effort with his or her appearance. I’ll tell a male friend that his beard looks distinguished, and I’ll tell a female friend that I like her new hairdo.

...women who wear revealing clothing often create an “invitation” to sexual harassment.

More accurately:

"Women who wear revealing clothing are often sexually harassing others by doing so."

Men should start going to HR to complain of sexual harassment because of woman exposing themselves in the workplace.

Men should take a stand regarding domestic abuse of men (by female and male "partners"), and they should take a stand regarding abuse of minors by adult women. However, they rarely do.

"Women who wear revealing clothing are often sexually harassing others by doing so."

Interesting perspective, Kris. Never thought of it that way, but you are absolutely correct. A friend of ours was dating a woman who insisted on wearing the tightest, shortest dresses she could find at all times. I have to admit that I did feel somewhat "uncomfortable" around her.

Could I sue her for sexual harassment???

That’s really good. And so are your examples. You could probably write a HR book based on that! Think of it. You could give seminars, and make millions.

But your guideline leaves the gays off the hook. So you’ve got to come up with something to replace that “same sex” adjective.

Immodest dress for females is considered to be one of the most inflammatory things you can expose an Islamic jihadist warrior to - he totally loses control and cannot stop the conditioned response, which is to kill or rape. Sometimes both.

One can only speculate as to why men notice what color panties women are wearing.
= = =

Some panties have days of the week on them.

Steer clear if they have names of the months.

Apples and bowling balls comparison

The direct equivalent would be to become a gym rat and build massive biceps and six pack abs which are apparent under your tight HK shirts.

Yes, I realized it didn’t cover those with sames-sex urges ... but the target audience was my husband, who was taking the position that a (heterosexual) man can’t possibly know what’s appropriate/acceptable/professional in relation to women. Therefore the premise: if you wouldn’t (whatever) with a male coworker, you shouldn’t with a female coworker.

I think (attempting neutrality) that a general guideline regarding remarks on appearance would be that any comments should recognize the person’s effort to increase value to the business. For example, “That’s an extremely professional look. It will make a good impression on the client!” Or, “When a customer sees your colorful jewelry, she may want to buy some like it from us!”

Comments should not emphasize any personal lust the speaker feels toward a coworker of either sex.
