C.S. Lewis said the problems between men and woman can be boiled down to the fact women do not have nouns in their vocabulary.
Wife (When you are in another room: Dear can you do this?
Husband: Do what?
Wife: This!
SHE: Its right there in the kitchen. (The kitchen has 5 large appliances and 50 shelves within 22 cupboards.)
HE: Where in the kitchen?
SHE (leaving her chair): Why cant men ever find anything themselves?
HE (under his breath): Mission accomplished.

The quote is from That Hideous Strength, and ties the the comments above together nicely:
"The cardinal difficulty," said MacPhee, " in collaboration between the sexes is that women speak a language without nouns. If two men are doing a bit of work one will say to the other, ' Put this bowl inside the bigger bowl which you'll find on the top shelf of the green cupboard.' The female for this is, ' Put that in the other one in there.' There is consequently a phatic hiatus."
