My name is Jasmine Lopez, Im 11 years old and Im a U.S. citizen. If Congress doesn't take action now, I may not have my mom with me for the holidays.
Why is this important for me? Because Ive already experienced something close to losing my dad, and I dont want that to happen ever again.
I was born in Florida, but both my parents were born in Mexico and are living in the U.S. undocumented. Even though they were always careful when driving to work or to the grocery store, one day things got real for all of us. My dad was detained while driving because he couldnt get a drivers license. Thankfully, we were able to get him out of detention so he wouldnt get deported.
As a kid in this country, I have the constitutional right to pursue happiness. But without a Dream Act that allows my mom to stay and doesn't hurt my dad, Im not fulfilling my right. Thats why, instead of writing a letter to Santa this year, I decided to write a letter to Congress and ask them to act now. Last week, I even flew to Washington D.C. to deliver my letter directly to Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, but he wouldnt open the door for me.
My moms DACA expires on December 22nd, the exact same day as the deadline that Congress has to make a decision. Please, Congress, put in a vote. Allow my childhood to continue instead of ending it by separating my family.
All I want for Christmas is Congress to pass a clean Dream Act. It would be like a miracle for many immigrant families like mine.

In California, the newspapers and local news everyday are giving you illegal alien and anchor baby sob stories about what an awful Christmas is for them and their families, living under the threat of deportation by Donald Trump
Hey Jasmine, here is a passport. You are welcome to come home any time you want. Sucks to be your parents though.
Strange, I want the exact opposite for Christmas.
Why? Why do you want them (and you) to continue living in this racist, sexist, oppressive country?
This sob story makes me LOL.
My name is Jasmine Lopez, Im 11 years old and a bunch of adults are exploiting me by writing some garbage then having me tell the world that I actually wrote it....
“Mexico has a strict immigration policy and they enforce it”
—
I’m thinking more that a child of Mexican parents would have Mexican citizenship, so it wouldn’t fall under immigration.
Though, maybe somebody else has a more clear idea of Mexico’s laws re:are such children also Mexican citizens?
This person has apparently never read the Constitution, let alone understand it.
Two things: first of all, the "right" to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness isn't constitutional. It's a phrase in the Declaration of Independence. Two different documents.
Second, even if you have a "right" to the pursuit of happiness, that's all you have a right to: the pursuit of it. You don't necessarily have a right to happiness itself. That comes about as a result of the pursuit, if you do it properly ... and, this case, legally.
Jasmine baby - want to know why nobody gives a damn?
Because your parents, and millions like them BROKE THE LAW on purpose. Your family has bilked hundreds of thousands from real Americans and legal immigrants in education, benefits, and welfare.
You guys deserve a Merry South of the Border Christmas!
Feliz Navidad y prospero año nuevo en México!
BTW, this is from the same Teen Vogue mag that thinks it’s cool to have adverts about drag queens giving makeup tips to young girls.....
I’ve spent countless Christmas in Canada and the Philippines. The Philippines is the BEST so far. A Christian nation where EVERY house, mall or business has a Christmas or Nativity decoration. And yeah, they are not PC or afraid to say MERRY CHRISTMAS at every window unlike here...
Letter written by some Democrat.
Sorry your parents broke the law.
Don’t worry you will be with them.
Cry me a river...
Not to mention driving without a license.
Right on queue, here comes the avalanche of emotional heartbreak stories well packaged and demanding that we set aside the rule of law, rational thought, and make decisions purely on emotions.
Well said!
And BTW,sweetie...I call all wetbacks (and supporters of wetbacks) "Pedro" because you all look alike to me!
And BTW...any foreigner who's been found to have broken any of our immigration laws, residency laws or entry laws should be barred from entering US territory FOR LIFE!
