For more than a year, I served as official caregiver to my wife of 46 years, Karen Clark.
Two years ago she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Two surgeries followed, along with three months of chemotherapy, and 37 radiation treatments.
It has been a life-changing experience, of course, and I am happy to report that all her doctors express great optimism about her prospects.
As a caregiver, I can testify that four powerful forces combined to help both of us through our struggle:
Medical science
Prayer and magical thinking
Comfort food (mashed potatoes and tapioca pudding)
Hallmark Christmas movies

There's far worse stuff on TV, to be certain.
Formulaic works well on the "All-Chick-Flicks" channels. Mrs WBill was engrossed in one of those cry-fests awhile back when I walked through the room and asked "Abusive Husband or Terminal Disease?"
She threw a pillow at me. Turned out that it was both.
Totally agree!
There are actually three Hallmark movies with that same basic plot. It’s so refreshing to see family life and the love therein celebrated. In all three, she chooses family over career. (Of course)
That was amazing.
LOCK HER UP.
A great movie title, if there ever was one.
Imagine a parallell universe where MSNBC has a channel devoted to progressive Christmas wishes.
Plot: Hillary gets locked up, only to be rescued by her gallant husband, and James Comey. In the end she is vindicated, and is elected President back in November of 2016 via the Grinch (dressed as the Supreme Court) that stole Christmas......
*Gulp*. I hope I didn't destroy the thread.......
Instead of watching the “news” shows, I check to see what is on (we get 2 Hallmark Channels) & if it’s a movie I’ve not seen, that’s usually what I’m doing in the evening while working on Christmas presents (I make a lot of what I give). The last couple of years, I actually look forward to Hallmark Christmas Movie season. If there’s nothing to see on Hallmark, I’m on the outdoor channel, watching the various hunting shows.
I haven't watched them yet, but saw them many, many years ago so my recollection of the stories are fuzzy.

Abusive Husband
More than likely it was a Lifetime channel movie, which is a totally different animal...
Bless you! Going through the same with my wife. The one elixir, besides prayer, is the Hallmark Christmas movies!
AKA, The Man-Bashing Channel
Far better movie than the mawkish slop on Hallmark.
My wife binge watches these movies, so I cannot avoid them entirely. Has any of them ever made even passing mention of the Person this is all about? Not that I’ve noticed.
A Christless Christmas is a fake Christmas. Pass.
Last year, I even joked that the Hallmark Channel must own Alicia Witt, because she was in practically every single movie. This year, it's Lacey Chalbert.
Christmas is a cure, not a curse. Anyone who views is in terms of fulfilling a fun requirement misunderstands it entirely.
“Remember the Night.”
It’s a ruse. She’s the same woman from Baby Face.
“My idea of a classic Christmas movie is Die Hard.”
And, Trading Places.
“Hallmarks 2002 movie Silent Night “
The one where the American and German troops spend Christmas together in a log cabin during the battle of the Bulge?
“*Gulp*. I hope I didn’t destroy the thread”
You started it, pal.
After a successful political careers, philandering Bill and his saintly wife Hillary move to the small town of Chappaqua, NY.
Bill continues his philandering but when Hillary becomes disabled from a fall he takes care of her with the help of their somewhat estranged daughter who could never meet their political expectations.
The family takes long walks together in the woods, reminiscing about the good old days in Arkansas and living off the public dole.
Daughter confronts father about current and past affairs and helps dad find the strength to reject the bevy of beautiful younger women who are constantly throwing themselves at him.
Hillary survives delicate experimental head transplant (Young Ukrainian model donor) and recovers.
Mother, father and daughter renew their bonds and work together on daughter’s successful Congressional election campaign...
She a tough thief in this. Fast-talking, too. And she looks very pretty in this one.
