Alabama votes on Tuesday in a special election to fill the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, now the attorney general. The last polls close at 8 p.m. Eastern. Strong support for Roy S. Moore, the Republican, is expected in rural, mostly white parts of the state and in its northern half. The Democrat, Doug Jones, aims to create a lead in the urban counties that include Birmingham and Montgomery, and across a band of largely black counties.
One critical battleground is a trio of smaller, whiter cities: Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. Mr. Moore won a hard race in 2012 by keeping things close there. Mr. Jones hopes to win the cities by a convincing margin.

You’re probably right there... that’s what Pete Wilson had as governor of CA.
Well I have to head to bed. Lots to do tomorrow. Just hope I can sleep after this troublesome evening.
I have always said this state was full of sleepy conservatives. Meaning that they just think that they are conservative, but really are accepting of the status quo. I thought 2016 changed that. Today they proved me right on my original thought. You would have thought that the economic devastation to this state in recent years would have meant something. It did not.
The large majority of uncounted ballots are in locations which Jones won.
Plus one Jane
Goodnight. Hope we all get some rest.
May tonight’s disappointment turn into tomorrow’s good news/opportunity.
I confess
My southern electorate ain’t what it was
Sad really sad.
This is the painful part
Do they have a figure on how many absentee votes there are?
Well it’s without a doubt a difficult battle when your fighting your own party...and the Demo-rat Machinery... and the DeMo-rat Media....... In Moore’s case he knew that going in, especially in light of his nomination to run in the first place. That was no shoe in for sure.
I agree the nation has been damaged....more than any realize is almost all self-inflicted...but it’s not quite beyond redemption, if you will, yet. Close but not quite. We shall surely see. I have no doubt this Presidency is the last chance....ever.
I think we have to lower our expectations of the Trump presidency somewhat. He isnt going to get much at all in long term change (beyond his presidency). We will not get a better immigration system through Congress, which is more come-one, come-all open borders now than it was before today. It was bad already but now the Swamp is deeper, darker and more entrenched than it was before.
We can make some gains still on economy...but even the GOPe went for tax cuts. Thats about the limit on what he can accomplish domestically. And I think we need to expect that. The culture issues, the climate change hoax and the immigration problems...and even the courts...will get no better looking forward than they are today.
It’s funny how every election is now a mandate on Trump
Funny how that works
Yes
This is a stinging defeat brought to us totally unexpectedly from Alabama
It’s shameful
Almost 2000 absentees ballots in Montgomery county alone.

Montgomery County Circuit Clerk Tiffany McCord said absentee voting was higher than expected for Tuesday’s special election in the U.S. Senate.
McCord said she initially ordered only 400 ballots but had sent out more than 1,800 by late this afternoon

Well dear it sucks doesn’t it
Just shameful
I’m guessing over a third of whites voted Jones
Vestavia and Mountainbrook and Daphne ....the nice Tahoe or Land Cruiser and private schools and vacations at 30-A sorts
Just damn...
And younger voters I’d reckon...
I got bushwhacked on this one....never figured it possible
We need to modernize elections. I should be able to get a printed receipt of my votes and then login online and confirm my votes were tallied correctly (and nobody switched my vote). Until this happens, Republicans will get cheated in urban areas forever.
I especially dislike all the liberals have used to “park” their people in strategic places of control.....and how they abuse naive college students, and other organizations they're simply using to acquire power. Too many Americans 'woke up" too late in the day...so now they're all scrambling to stop the flood waters that have ensued....and here we are trying to re-enforce the dam before it breaks..and this during a fierce thunder and lightening storm!
McCord said she initially ordered only 400 ballots but had sent out more than 1,800 by late this afternoon....
Sounds like more than mischief to me.....
It’s my South and I’ve noticed it changing
Young educated folks are brainwashed with progressive viewpoint even here with soft men and strident females
They purposely don’t speak southern like they are ashamed
Times move on
I didn’t ...I’m 60
My boomer peak is the fulcrum point of age and voting for whites even in the south
Alabama just elected a senator no different from Chuck Schumer except he isn’t Jewish and his voice is more palatable
Otherwise...a democrat leftist
Alabama...not Minnesota
This is a frigging earthquake of weird
Basically Morris Deee or Mark Potok just got elected senator form Alabama to replace Jeff Sessions
Same race baiting conservatives are Nazis type as those two
My state won’t even count absentees or mail ballots unless they can make a difference in the race. That’s why I was wondering just how many there are.
Dream On.
