FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Reuters) - A man who vandalized a Florida mosque in January 2016 and left a raw slab of bacon on its doorstep was sentenced to 15 years in prison on a hate crime conviction, a state attorney’s spokesman said on Wednesday.

Wolfe was also sentenced to 15 years of probation, to be served after his prison sentence, Brown said.

In future, bacon vandalism should be carried out via drone delivery. Much safer.

I am not a lawyer but I do know that the constitution forbids exorbitant sentencing. I was in error stating that his conviction would be overturned - but the sentence was what I had in mind, and that based upon the eighth amendment.

An act designed to intimidate is generally not taken kindly to these days. I’m not trying to defend islam. I’m just addressing the academic concept of when a “seemingly innocent” activity is obviously not, and everybody knows it. You can’t do that.

Unless you disguise yourself and don’t tell anybody. But that last part is virtually impossible for a human being to do. And the critical point is that, at the end of the day, when someone does what this guy did, the only person he really hurts is himself - even if he is never caught.

It’s simply not appropriate.

What IS appropriate is dipping our military’s bullets in hog fat and ensuring the enemy knows it.

He chose the wrong defense...he should have claimed his actions as "Art"..

If someone can put a cross in a bottle of urine and call it ART, so should this guy. Seems like it's the same actions with different defenses....

Never, never,*ever* would I vote "guilty" on *any* "hate crime" charge regardless of the evidence presented. In a case like this, for example,I'd probably vote guilty on a vandalism charge and maybe other charges as well. But 15 years for bacon? Nope,no sale!

I wonder if "hate crimes" have been challenged in the Federal courts on basic Constitutional grounds.

He took the plea deal because they had him on an armed burglary charge. They dropped the armed burglary charge in exchange for the plea.

"That’s no crime. More of a misdemeanor. But now the prosecutors here have created blasphemy law in Florida, which is unconstitutional."

BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INMATE INFORMATION: He was carrying a machete which upped it to armed burglary, but still this sentence is a travesty of justice. Who could prosecute a case like this?

tater, I think you meant broward county. Brevard is very very conservative. He would get a slap on the wrist there

The 8th amendment forbids cruel and unusual punishments. It also forbids excessive fines. That did not prevent a judge in Oregon from imposing a fine well over $100,000 on the owner of a bakery for offending the feelings of a homosexual couple.

Even 1 to 5 would seem harsh but fair. Fifteen is a travesty. America has a gulag in it, apparently.

He’d have gotten less time if he’d murdered someone.

Now that I think about it, he probably got treble sentence for the hate crime aggravation. Still way harsh for a property crime. Blasephemy.

How soon before the Left defends this guy from such a harsh sentence the way the defended the "Pussy Riot" members who disrupted a Church service in Russia by screaming obscenities about God in the church on microphones?

So what happens if I eat a lot of bacon or ham or such, then use the restroom in the mosque?

(I don’t really know if they have restrooms in mosques. They may be just one huge ‘restroom’.)

That’s even more ridiculous. Especially in light of the Second Amendment.
